Two trains?

Hi,
I have been looking at train number 8102, Jammu Tawi to Amritsar.
On the Indiarail web site the train departs at 1305 hours getting to Pathankot at 1620 and Amritsar at 1910.This train is called the Jat tatanagar express.
If this site then directs me to a spot your train site the same train, with the same number becomes the Muri express, departing at 1405, and not 1335, even though it reaches the other destinations at a similar time!!!
Any body help me with this confusion ?.
Thanks,
martin.

14:05 is the departure time for 'both' trains.

The train travels to Muri, then one part of the train goes to Hatia, the other part of the train goes to Tatanagar (Jamshedpur).

Some (actually lots) train times changed in the latest timetable, but Indian Railways are sometimes a bit slow changing the info on all their websites.
.
SOS: Missing Person...

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?

He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

I find http://www.indianrail.gov.in/ is the most up to date site.

oh right right, thanks!

i'm making progress on an indian rail inquiry engine with clickable maps, itinerary planning, etc.

for giggles i'm going to have it connect multiple train lines for source/destination pairs that don't have direct connections.

i'll be looking for beta testers before too long...

Would love to but at the moment it's only on my laptop. I'll make an announcement as soon as it's ready for testing.

The initial round will be merely the search engine with route planning. The map will come later. I've been spending a lot of time up front. designing an architecture that has a chance at keeping the train schedules up to date.

In a few months I'll have shed this inconvenient full time job and will be able to make much faster progress.

Sometimes, rail junctions are just as important as big cities for finding connections.

A few (of the hundreds) of the important ones that spring to mind.....

Katni, Itarsi, Londa, Guntakal, Ambala, Mughal Sarai, Kota, Jalgaon, Bhusawal, Renigunta etc.

This is a very brave project, good luck.

Hi all

I am a new member, although I have been visiting this wonderful site for a few months. Another important juncition on the East is Kharagpur - I remember as a teenager in enginering college, sometimes travelling without ticket , getting off at Kharagpur at midnight to change compartments (called boggies too), and eating bhatura and chole from railawy station vendors - tasty stuff, but, I doubt the quality - in anycase it made my immune system strong!

Cheers

Hello Nattusbs and welcome to indiamike.com

I was going to add Kharagpur, but didn't want to add too many junctions.

I depart for India in about 47 hours, I had to completely change my Itinerary when my girlfriend decided to join me on this trip with my daughter.

My original plan had been to change trains in Kharagpur when travelling between Rajahmundry and Hajipur.

There was a programme on the TV in England about 6 months ago called Monsoon Railway, one of the people in the program was the station manager of Kharagpur station, it was a very interesting programme about how the railway operates during the monsoon.

Thumbs up no need to confuse

Hi,

Actually a part of the train starts from Tatanagar while another part starts from Hatia. Both the trains (with different numbers) get joined at a junction station called Muri, and then runs as one train to Jammu. I personally went with this train from Tatanagar to Jammu on my trip to Kashmir. So, the starting times from Hatia and Tata are bound to be differnt but from Muri, there will be one fixed timing.

I hope this will clear your confusion.

happy journey,

Bhaswaran
