Trying to book a ticket from Delhi to Amritsar
Howdy everyone. Well, I thought I understood how to book a ticket online, apparently I don't.
I'm trying to go from New Delhi to Amritsar. I thought that the New Delhi station code was NDLS, but the IRCTC site keeps saying that my "from" station code is incorrect. Also, for Amritsar the IRCTC has two stations listed. There is Amritsar CBA (ASRA) and then it also lists Amritsar JN (ASR). My Roughguide doesn't say anything about there being 2 train stations in Amritsar. Can anybody help?!! Thanks, Gabe |

Gabe,
I booked tickets yesterday, no problem. NDLS is New Delhi and ASR is Amritsar. Had problem with the payment gateway, but that is common. Tried second time it worked. Sometimes you get charged for the failed transaction but the IRCTC is very good in refunding the charge.

I'm also going to book a train from Delhi to Amritsar. I'm using ASR for Amritsar (I learned here that JNs are either in the city or very close) and DLI for Delhi. Also, if you look under "Popular Stations" on IRCTC, you'll see that it lists ASR for Amritsar Don't depend so much on your guide book, they can make mistakes or leave stations out. I prefer Lonely Planet so I don't know how good Roughguide is. If I remember correctly, LP lists ASR. |

I'm still not having any luck booking this ticket. I'm thinking of just waiting till I get to Delhi and then booking the ticket.
If I get there on the 4th do y'all think it'd be possible to get a ticket to Amritsar by the 7th or 8th? |

you can always get tickets from the Tatkal quota, are you trying to do Shatabdi? It will only be 150/- extra I believe.

If you're like me and don't like taking chances with trains, book in advance. I replied to your PM, let me know if you didn't receive it. |

Do try to take one of the Shatabdi trains....fast, and they even feed you as part of the ticket.

You mean you've been trying since your original post on 27 June? What problems are you having?

At the moment there are still hundreds of tickets available for the Shatabdi for every day in eary August. But there's no reason why you should not be able to book online so if you tell us what the problem is I'm sure someone will be able to help. You've been trying to book a seat in CC class from NDLS to ASR, right? |

Just tried again, no luck....ahhhh.
I'm trying to go from NDLS (New Delhi) to Amritsar (ASR) on Sept 7, Sleeper Class, train departs at 20:15. The train # is 8237, Chattisgarh Express, the source station is NZM, the destination station is ASR. The message I get is: The "From" Station you have selected does not exist on the route of the Train or this station has been deleted. Kindly select your "From" station from the Train route shown below. thanks, Gabe |

I just booked myself on that train - all the way to paying for it and then I cancelled!
In the from box I typed 'New Delhi' and when the drop down menu appeared I selected NDLS. For the to I typed 'AMRI' and selected Amritsar Jn from the menu. Then it was dates, class etc and find trains. There were about twelve to choose from on that day and your number train was showing an availability of 105! I've had problems like this before with IRCTC the trick seems to be do something a little bit diferent every time you try and hope you're lucky! Good luck! |

Just enter NZM on the first screen and you should be fine. Or just follow the instructions you've been given and select the "From" station (NZM) from the list. It's not exactly complicated. |

Ya, I just realized that NDLS is not a stop for this train, so I've been using NZM. But what I don't get is how this can be true since a few people in this thread said they used NDLS and another said they used DLI, neither of which are stops for this train according to the IRCTC.
Now I'm just having problems with the Gateway. Tried using CITI but it asked me for a IPIN # which I don't have. |
