whats the best way to get from trivandrum station to kovalam??
Any cheap hotel recommendations - arrive on sunday after marathon 52hr train journey from delhi....
any assitance most appreciated.

You need to take a left out of the station, 100m along and turn left again down MG Road for another 100m.

You'll see a busy bus stand on your left opposite the FORT. I think it's the last stand you get to. Take the only bus with the destination written in English "Kovalam". Frequent and around 3rs or so. Mad 20 minute ride to the last stop. You COULD get off at the second last stop at the beach.

Chances are you'll see one ot two other westerners at the stop and you could ask them about the current accom situation. I hear it's a buyer's market in Kovalam these days so ignore any touts, take a walk, and negotiate - it's part of the fun !

4 years back I stayed at the PAPPAKUTTY resort in a cottage right close to the beach for around 250rs. Clean and professional..

If you'd rather get an Auto Rickshaw, there is a pre-paid kiosk outside the main entrance of the train station, the rickshaw drivers will try anything to stop you getting to it (you'll find out why when you want a rickshaw to get back to Trivandrum, you'll do well to get them down to Rs150).

The pre-paid fare a couple of years ago was Rs75, dont hand over the pre-paid coupon till you get to Kovalam.

many thanks for the replies - train delayed by 3hrs, so not so bad - but will definately fly back to delhi!!!
