| Traveling across the border to Pakistan: Samjhauta Express Im wondering if anyone has information on the Samjhauta Express, which I understand goes from Delhi to Lahore, Pakistan. Is it up and running after the terrorist attacks a few years ago? I am traveling solo, and plan to meet up with friends in Lahore. Any words of advice on taking a train direct from Delhi. Is it safe? Thanks!!!! ![]() |

| Off the top of my head, I know the train that goes through the border, south of Barmer is running, so I think this one may be. But I'm no expert here...I will move your post into Indian Railways where it will more than likely be answered more readily than being in this Forum.

| Hi, my understanding is that yes, the train is running, but only twice a week. However, it stops for a long time at the border, as everybody on board must go through the process. Much quicker to catch a train to Amritsar, minibus to the border, walk across (should take 30 min - 1 hour including formalities), and move on to Lahore from the other side. This way you also get to catch the border closing ceremony. |
