Travel time from Delhi Int'l to rail station. PLease help me!

Hi guys, first post here.
I need some advice from someone who's not an agent as I just can't trust those monkeys!
I need to know what you think.
Is it possible to make the 19:05 train from Delhi to Udaiper if my flight arrives at Delhi from Hong KOng at 17:20?
I will be carrying on my luggage, so no need to wait to collect it.
I need to book either a train ticket that night, or a flight the next morning. I'm much rather take the train.

Doable? PLease help.
Steve

As andymell said - Dont even think about it. Just because your flight lists 17.20 as arrival that is not the gate/jetway door open time.

I agree - it's too short a time. You can take more than one hour just to get through immigration. I wouldn't risk it.

There are other threads similar to yours in the Delhi forum. Do a search within the Delhi forum itself - with 'airport to railway station'.

Welcome to India Mike!

I do not understand what you mean about "carrying on my luggage". Did you mean that you want the luggage to be transferred to the connecting flight? First, you will have to collect the luggage for Indian customs immigration checking. How much luggage will you be having? Plus, you will need to change terminals from the international one to the domestic one. I think you will have different airlines between the incoming one from HK and the connecting one (although they could be both Jet for example) - you will need to check with the airline if they will transfer the luggage after you clear customs.

Secondly the time gap between your arrival at Delhi airport and the possible train that you want is rather tight - I do not think you can make that train especially since it will evening rush hour traffic.

Do let us know a few more details and we can try to help.

Cheers

Carry on means carrying the luggage onto the flight, so not having to wait for luggage at the destination airport, it saves 20-30 minutes.

There's a train (Tu, Th & Sa only) from Delhi Cant at 19:58 to Udaipur (07:50), but that would still be tight.

If you cant make the train, you could stay in a hotel in Paharganj, then get an early morning train to Agra, see Agra for a day, then get an overnight train to Udaipur, this way you wouldn't be losing a day (if you'd planned to visit Agra later on your trip).

Good one - I am normally used to the terminology "carry-on" so was taken aback with "carrying on" !!!I get it now - there won't be any checked luggage to pick up from the carousel.

In any case, the train connection will not work out.

Cheers
