Travel from Orchha to Khajuraho

Can anyone provide info on the best way to travel from Orchha to Khajuraho? Is it easy enough to organise after arrival in Orchha?

Thanks very much...

Bus or share-jeep, which regularly ply on the Jhansi-Khajuraho route.

Orchha is just 18 kms. from Jhansi.

Take a tempo from Orchha to the junction with the main Jhansi-Khajuraho road. From here you can pick up a bus or shared jeep to Khajuraho. It's not the best of roads (or at least it wasn't a few years ago) so if you would like more comfort it's worth going into Jhansi and finding a more comfortable tourist bus.

Perhaps a travel agent in Orchha can book you a seat on one and the bus can pick you up at the junction?

If you decide to catch the bus on the junction with the main Jhansi-Khajuraho road, chances or you'll have no seat for a while .

If you decide however to go to Jhansi to catch the same bus, take it from the train station - left side on the other side of the road opposite the rly-station - you'll be sure of a seat (85 Rs- 4/5 hours).
It'll pass Jhansi busstation after that, where it will fill up quickly.

If the budget is not tight, just go for the shared jeeps at the junction .

I just came back from India and was in Khajuraho and Orchha. Both recommended. Half of the road starting from Khajuraho towards Orchha has been repaired, but the second half is a mess.
I read in IndiaMike about Shared jeeps. Do not count on them. I did not see a single one in the 3 and half hours car drive. I was told that those jeeps only work in high season. There were very few turists. I also saw with my own eyes the Khajuaho train station. It is waaaay out of town. You cant walk, its like 6 KM out. It only has one train a day. Similarly I say the Orchha train station. Also way out of town. The interesting thing was that when you look in india governments train site, Orchha doesn't even show up as a station.

Only local trains stop here, so you won't find it on IRCTC website. The Station is so small that it doesn't even have a platform....the station building is a tin shed and few benches only.......
