trains-upgrades

Its our first trip to India and after trial and error I managed to order my tickets via the internet, Mumbai to Delhi, I then rang my brother in the UK to tell him the good news and I was told he had been in a motor vehicle accident, 20 weeks in plaster and he has had to cancell his trip to India. I've now found out I cannot cancel his ticket over the net and we dont arrive in Mumbai untill the night before our train journey. does anyone know if I can use the cost of his ticket to upgrade mine from A/c 2 sleeper to a first class sleeper, I'd rather do this than go through the hassells of refunds via the banks
cheers

its not possible to calcel a ticket via nternet.

however you need not have to cancel the ticket in mumbai. you can do it from any station in any city in india. they do decuct a little bit, depending on how early (from the startng date and time) you cancel. and yes upgradation is possible too. but you got to do that mechanically i think - ie. cancell your tcket too, and then with the money from both, buy yourself a ac 1st class ticket. the other way si to hop in to your ac 2 tier (after cancelling ur bro's ) and when the TTE comes to have a look at your tickets, you could tell him that u need an upgrade. ac 1st class are quite expensive, so most likely it would have a few vacant berths. you will have to pay the differental fee to the TTE. but really ac 2 tier/ac 2nd sleeper, isnt all that bad either.

Thanks for that, I think to save any confusion we'll stay with the 2 tier 2nd class and enjoy the experience.
