Lightbulb Trains for disoragnised travellers

While I do have an itinerary it is shall we say variable. I'm planning on using trains and buses along with a couple of internal flights. The good news is that Im not going to using the trains over Christmas/New Year. My general plan is that when I arrive at a location to get myself an onward train ticket as quickly as possible if necessary. In most cases I'm going to be staying in one place for 3 days or so so I'll be buying for the same week.
Is this possible with tourist quotas? Id much rather move at my own pace rather than have to worry about a getting in a position where I have to catch that all important train 3 weeks in advance. Any ideas or views on whether this is possible or am I on a hiding to nothing?

Possible trains 7227 Hospet to Margao
7617 Mumbai-Aurangabad
2137 Bhopal-Gwalior
the Marudhar Express from Varanasi to Jaipur via Agra
Tawi Express Mt Abu- Jodhpur
4810 Jodhpur-Jaisalmer
4060 Jaisalmer-Delhi

Any advice gratefully received

Travel on day trains.
If you plan your schedules in a manner that most of your traveling is done in the early morning hours, you can find seats on trains, thanks to accommodating co-passengers.
Traveling without reservation on an overnight journey and hoping to find empty berths is next to impossible.
