Trains/Fare/Accommodation link on Indian Railways website

Does anyone know what happened to the 'Trains/Fare/Accommodation' link on Indian Railways website, it's not worked for about 5 or 6 days now, I feel like my right arm has been cut off.

Is there another way to enter individual stations (not main stations) and search for train connections?

The 'Trains between Important Stations' link doesn't come close to the usefulness of the 'Trains/Fare/Accommodation' link.

Hi Steven; the link to Train/Fare/Accomodation section from the main page of www.indianrail.gov.in website is, as usual, working very slowly, but you can skip it if you use the direct addreess of the "Trains/Fare/Reservation Availability Status" section (which is basically the same, with the difference that it gives the possibility to enter the station NAMES instead of CODES):

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/inet_srcdest_names.html

I have this address in my "preferred" ones, I use always this direct link when I want to search for some Indian train time, I never go to the homepage (it gives a million pop-ups usually!!).

The direct link above works very well all the time.

Let me know if everything is OK... we all CANNOT miss your support in Indian trains and railway stuff!!

Hi! Gianni

Thanks for the replies.

Maybe it's just my computer.

I'm not getting the 'Trains/Fare/Accommodation' page if I use the direct link or if I go via the www.indianrail.gov.in website.

But strangly I'm getting everything else on the www.indianrail.gov.in website.

I'll give an idea as to how limited the website is without the 'Trains/Fare/Accommodation' section.

Take a look at this thread that has just been started.

Click on the 'Trains/Fare/Accommodation' link and search for trains between ramnagar and moradabad, you will find that one train splits at moradabad, part of it goes towards Delhi and part of it joins to another train and goes to Dehra Dun (I think), I seem to remember part of the train being attached to yet another train, but can't remember where that train goes to, if the train goes to kalka, you then have the Ramnagar - Chandigarh train requested in the new thread.

So, if no train to Chandigarh, look for a train (from the Ramnagar - Moradabad list) that goes to Ambala (50 Kms from Chandigarh), if any, note the details, if the arrival time at Ambala is early, see if the train goes to Rajpura (43 kms from Chandigarh) arrival time should be about 50 minutes later.

If no trains to Ambala, then search for trains between Moradabad and Chandigarh, then compare timings of Ramnagar - Moradabad trains to see if a good connection can be found, though if I remember right most trains pass through Moradabad in the middle of the night.

As a last resort, look for a Ramnagar - Moradabad - Ambala connection.

Now, imagine trying to do that without the 'Trains/Fare/Accommodation' section.

It's now been a week without being able to get into the 'Trains/Fare/Accommodation' section.

It's not because the site is slow, I know how the site works, I just get a blank page, not the 'trying to open a page' kind of blank page, but I get the 'done' message at the bottom of the screen.

I've cleared all my cookies and internet files, I've done a complete virus scan, and nothing.

I use windows XP (home) and Internet Explorer, I am considering doing a 'System Restore' back to December 2005, anything to get back to normal (though I'm having no other problems with my computer).

I'm now angry, I thought everyone was having the same problem.

I've tried opening a new window every 5 minutes for an hour (yes, 20 new windows) to get onto the page, then I've left all the new windows for an hour (to give them time to load), all this at a time when I had no trouble at all getting onto any other part of the railways website.

Hi Steven! Before you suicide , try this: start at the homepage www.indiarail.gov.in, then DON'T click to the link to "Trains/Fare/Accommodation" page, but go to the menu on the left "Train schedule", and choose the first option, "Train schedule". You will be directed into the schedules area, and you can go on the very bottom menu and click to "Train between stations".
At this point you will be into the schedules area, but if you don't know all the codes of all ths rail stations in India (but maybe you do... ), you can still choose the option "Don't know the station code? Click here" just below the search box. You will arrive to the destination, at last, which is exactly the address corresponding to the "Trains/Fare/Accommodation" link in the homepage.
By the way, I can do this at my office (ADSL line), while at home (telephone line) I have a problem similar to yours: I can arrive till the schedules section ("train between stations"), but the link "Don't know the station code? Click here" doesn't work, and I have to go to "Know station code?" in the menu at the bottom of the page, going into the "station code enquiry" page to get the codes of the stations I am interested in, then return to the "train between stations" page and make my search using the codes instead of the station names.
Could it depend on the modem speed? Also for me, this is just since few days.
Try again, good luck!!
Gianni

P.S.: one day we should try to understand WHY we do this...

gianni66, thanks very much, you're a star, this works for me and I have access to the station codes.

I've just got the direct link to that page as well.

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/src_dest_trns.html

I get the same reaction (page showing nothing) when I click on the "station code enquiry" page as I get when I click on the "Trains/Fare/Accommodation" link.

Why do we do this? because we're mad I think.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the link Mike, I'm just not a fan of the 'Trains between important stations' page, it's just too inflexable.

BTW, what are you doing about hotels in Digboi and Dibrugarh?

I keep meaning to send you a PM, but never seem to find the time.

I stayed in a place in Digboi that I would not recommend, but I don't have an alternative, I also stayed in a couple of places in Dibrugarh, one awful and one good, all were R500 - 1000 a night.

I will try to find the details, send me a PM to remind me as I have an awful memory.
