that's one fast train you're looking for....

Four hours? Surely that "someone" meant 48 hours. If you go by train you'll still be in U.P. after four hours. Better to fly if you're in a hurry.

Domestic flights to Kerala are still quite expensive as the budget airlines are not operating on this route yet. (Delhi>Trivandrum about 360$ with Jet Airways.)

The twice a week Rajdhani is the fastest train to Kerala and it takes around 38 hours to Ernakulam or 43 hours to Trivandrum from Nizamuddin station in Delhi. (departing at 11am on Tuesday and Sundays)

The closest you could get with a discounted flight would be a four hour flight to Bangalore with Spice Jet for around $100, and getting to where you're going from there by bus or train. Spice Jet has two daily flights to BLR from DEL, the first at 0710 and the other at 1305.

The bi-weekly Rajadhani Express to Trivandrum from New Delhi (SUN/TUE)also touches through Madgaon (**Goa), which is the fastest, as it consumes 28 Hours
-----
Once in a week, you have Goa Sampark Kranthi Express (SAT) consumes 30 Hours.
---------
The daily Train from Nizamuddin (New Delhi) to Goa consumes 40 Hours.
====================
The Delhi-Goa direct Flight operated by Indian Airlines daily consumes 3 Hrs.40 minutes in which the Y-Class Fare is Rs.11,525/-. Indian Airlines IS NOT offering concessional fares like K-Class/T-Class/V-Class/I-Class on DELHI-GOA Sector.
(whose Fares are much below the Y-Class)
----
As you are aware, J-Class is the costliest.

This fare is for Indian Nationals. The corresponding fare for foreigners is US$281/-, which roughly translates into Rs.12,225/-

SpiceJet has a daily flight from Delhi to Goa: dpt 11:20 arv 13:45

The fare is mentioned as "from 2399 rupees" on the home page, but the regular fare appears to be 4149, and as far as I know, is the same for non-residents as residents.
