Question Train waiting list

I have booked four tickets 2AC from Nagercoil-Chennai in Kanyakumari express on Nov 11th. Will I get confirmed berth? What is RAC 4.
Does it mean only one ticket is at the RAC status.

S# Booking Status Current Status
1 W/L 8 RAC 4
2 W/L 9 W/L 1
3 W/L 10 W/L 2
4 W/L 11 W/L 3

Appreciate your advice

RAC means that instead of a full berth you will be given a seat. Your RAC will in all probability get confirmed so will be the WL tickets.

RAC 4 will be surely confirmed.even there is good possibility that all of your tickets will be confirmed...

By the way can any body tell me what does it mean

2 W/L 9 W/L 1
does it means that the total wait listing tickets are 9 and our waiting number is 1.

It means that it started with wait list 9 and after subsequent cancellations it has come to WL1 position

Thumbs up Rac

RAC means RESERVATION AGAINST CANCELLATION

RAC: You have right to board that coach- you will be provided half [ sitting seat ] if you could not get confirmed.

Your RAC is very small....you will 98% get confirmation. Your status will be available on CHART which will be displayed one hr. before departure of that train.

WAITING: You do not have right to board that coach and railway will charge you with fine.

no,.... according to rules, he cannot. you cannot enter a reserved compartment(2nd class/ first calss/AC/non AC)without a confirmed reservation or a RAC. You have to travel in the unreserved compartments. But practically you can request the TTE and adjust with passengers so that they let you seat in their berth during the journey.

At the moment when you have booked you were No.9. Meanwhile you are No. 1, due to cancellations of other pax. With WL 1 you can be quite sure to get a berth!

Nick still confusing...
W/L 9 W/L 1
At the moment when you have booked you were No.9. Meanwhile you are No. 1 ????????????????

This is ok in case you check your validity say suppose after two days or 2 hrs.

Look this thing(W/L 9 W/L 1) is written on the ticket, ok lets assume a situation.
A person reach a railway counter and ask for the ticket , the counter person provides him the ticket with the following numbers
W/L 9 W/L 1
Now does this mean that within some seconds(in between the actual booking of the ticket, 8 persons have cancelled the ticket ).

Ok..I read Jyotirmoy post again.
What I conclude is the maximum waiting list for this journey and for the particular class went by 9 but currently its 1 due to subsequent cancellation.

Now the following combinations will hold true for other passengers

W/L 9 W/L 2 assuming no cancellation)

W/L 9 W/L 3assuming no cancellation)

---------
-------- till (assuming no cancellation)
W/L 9 W/L 9

now
W/L 10 W/L 10
if some body cancels now
it should be

W/L 10 W/L 9

again cancellation of 1 ticket

W/L 10 W/L 8

Am I right??????????

You are right, confusing...

Once I also had a simmilar note on my ticket, I was told that, according to the above example, I was WL9, if all reservations were considered, and WL1 if only valid reservations were. This means, 8 pax have reserved AND canceled before me.

Just for clarity....

W/L 9 - W/L 1.........

W/L 9 = position you join waitlist
W/L 1 = actual position after cancellations.

If you buy a ticket and it says W/L 9 - W/L 1, it means that you join the waitlist at position 9, but there have already been 8 cancellations, so you are now at waitlist position 1.

Everyone has to have their own position where they join the waitlist, otherwise how can anyone tell who should be where in the waitlist, the position you join the waitlist will always be the same (in this example, W/L 9) and will not change.

If you were the 42nd person to join the waitlist, the fist waitlist number will always be W/L 42, even after 55 cancellations, you'll still be W/L 42 - CONFIRMED

Hi Steven...you said "there have been 8 cancellation,so you are at wait list position 1"
My question is ...in which time interval these cancellation happened..
is it means that the maximum waiting list went by 9 but currently its 1 due to cancellations..
Moreover whats the need to show WL9? if actual waiting list is 1.If a person has a waiting list of 4 he/she knows only 3 passengers have to cancel the ticket, for him to get a confimed ticket.Thats the only number one needs.
