train (varanasi-khajuharo-agra-delhi)

Being a newbie on this forum, I would apreciate if someone could tell me which are the best train options for a trip starting in varanasi, passing along khajuharo e agra, and ending in delhi.

I read some of the posts (here and on other sites) about the train options, and the main conclusions were:

- there isn´t a train station at khajuharo? is that correct? If so, whats the nearest train station (with connection to a bus) to khajuharo? is satna (I don´t know if thats the correct way of writing the name of the place) a good option?

- if khajuharo doesn´t have a train station where should I catch the train to agra?

- where should I take off in agra? For what i've read, there are 3??? train stations in agra? is that correct?

- is there a train between agra and Fatehpur Sikri?

- Is orchha worth a visit?

sorry for all of those questions but it's going to be my first time in India, so all help is welcome to make this a wonderful trip.

No Trains In Khajarho

DELHI to AGRA (T)
AGRA to JHANASI (T)
JHANSI to KHOJ' (B)
KHOJ' to SATNA (B)
SATNA to ALLHABAD (T)
ALLAHABAD to VARANASI (T)

(T) = TRAIN (B) = BUS

Get train times here.

thanks alot matty. We are going to make the trip the other way around. We are starting in varanasi, passing along delhi, going to rajhastan and leaving India through delhi or mumbay. Do you think 3 weeks will be enough to visit varanasi, khajo, agra, fethkpur, delhi, jodhpur, jaisalmer, and udaipur? Cause we don't want to "run" to see all of that.
Is there a website where it's possible to check some info about the buses, something similar to indianrail but for buses?

Last time I spent three weeks in Varanasi alone.

Err... I'd say you'd be pushing it, why are you in such a rush. You can't rush anything in India.

There is no train station at Khajuraho (though Indian railways are doing a survey for a new line), buses can be taken from Satna (4 hours), Mahoba (3 hours) and Jhansi/Orchha (5 - 6 hours).

Orchha is said to be a great place, very relaxing, though I've not been there.

Varanasi - Satna

Train 1062 departs Varanasi (M, W, F, Su.) at 23:35 and arrives in Satna at 06:25.

Train 1066 departs Varanasi (Tu, Th, Sa.) at 23:35 and arrives in Satna at 06:25.

2 tier air con = Rs 635
3 tier air con = Rs 411
Sleeper class (not air con) = Rs 157

Mahoba - Agra cant

Train 1449 departs Mahoba daily at 23:45 and gets to Agra Cant at 06:45.

2 tier air con = Rs 703
3 tier air con = Rs 454
Sleeper class = Rs 172

Agra fort - Fatehpur Sikri

Train 284 Agra fort 08:10, Fatehpur Sikri 09:08.
Train 294 Agra fort 14:00, Fatehpur Sikri 15:00.
Train 282 Agra fort 19:08, Fatehpur Sikri 20:00.

Train 293 Fatehpur Sikri 10:36, Agra fort 12:02.
Train 283 Fatehpur Sikri 15:50, Agra fort 17:25.
Train 5064/5264 Fatehpur Sikri 20:40, Agra fort 21:40.

As the trip between Agra & Fatehpur Sikri is short, you are best to just buy a second class (unreserved) ticket.

If you do go to Orchha, there are loads of trains from Jhansi (11 kms) to Agra cant (2.5 - 3.5 hours).

On the map below, Jhansi & Orchha are about 136 kms west of Chatarpur.

Wow, 4 hours & 7 minutes, it will take you half that time to get the person in your berth removed.

I don't sleep much, but I'd still prefer to take an early morning train like 8237.

I know absolutely nothing about buses and their timings.

Hummm I have the same type of question of Bengal_Tiger. Does anyone have any info about the buses between satna-khajuraho, khajuraho-orchha, and orchha-jhansi in order to catch the train to agra?

Hi All,

If you wish to go to Agra directly from Khajuraho...then leave Khajuraho around 4 PM and you'll reach Mahoba at around 6 PM and there are two trains available namely UP Sampark Kranti Exp and Mahakoshal Exp...Sampark Kranti depart Mahoba at 8 PM and Mahakoshal at 12 Midnight..former reaches at 2:30 and the later reaches at 7 AM at Agra Cantt station.

And if you wish to go to Orchha then bus is the best option frequent bus service is available from Chhatarpur to Jhansi and orchha is just 15 Kms from Jhansi..

Wonderful with trains

Steven
It is heartening to see someone brilliant with trains. Nice to see the rail fan spirit alive. As for the gentleman's question the uttar pradesh road transport corporation has a decent website[used to at least] and timings and fares are given.8237 Chattisgarh Express on the off peak day can be a nice train less crowded as it leisurely moves to Delhi.
Thanks
