Train to Pondicherry
Hi,
I Will spend 3 weeks in south-india in September 07 and I have a couple of basic questions: Is it possible to travel by night train from Mysore to Pondicherry (Villupuram or Cuddalore). And the same from Ooty or surronds to Pondicherry (Villupuram or Cuddalore). If it is possible can I do an e-booking or advance booking at ooty. Finally is it possible to make an e-booking for trains that runs from Margao (Goa) to Ernakulam (Kerala)? Thank you |

Hello Rilays and welcome to indiamike.com
The following is from another post. Quote:
You may want to have a look in a few weeks as well, there is a new stretch of line opening soon from Salem to Vriddhachalam, this will allow a direct route to Cuddalore and an alternative route to Chennai (via Villupuram). Quote:

I've just had a quick check, and the following seem to be your best options.
Train 6232 departs MYSORE JN daily at 15:45 and gets to MAYILADUTURAI at 07:25 (2A, 3A, SL) MAYILADUTURAI is 111kms south of Pondi. Or an overnight train to from Mysore to Chennai, then a day train to Pondi. Or from Ooty, take the very scenic toy train from UDAGAMANDALAM (ooty) (15:00) to METUPALAIYAM, then the connecting overnight train from METUPALAIYAM to Chennai Central. Then the day train to Pondi. |

thanks for the information. It helps me to decide that finally I must go to Pondy by over-night bus. I think is the fastest option because I have no many days. Any suggestion about best option bus and booking bus from Mysore to Pondy?
Thanks for your help. Rilays |

I find it hard to imagine an overnight bus from Mysore to Pondi, there just wouldn't be enough people to make the service profitable.
Maybe Bangalore to Pondi??? Try the following thread for some on-line bus companies. Online bus ticket reservation sites |

So they STILL haven't fixed that direct rail connection to Pondy? (shakes head and smiles) - Amazing.

It's got a railway station.
So I guess it must be 'direct' from somewhere! ![]()

There were some carriages there when I drove past the other day.
And a sign above the main door saying "We Care". Of course, this does not, I guess, mean a railway service going somewhere useful is actually happening from there! ![]() |
