Thanx steven

The target date to complete the construction of Lalitpur-Singrauli BG line is year 2009, but till now only 30% work is completed. I think we need to wait for another 2 years before any of the section opens for commercial run. Major work is done on Tikamgarh-Satna section and some work on Lalitpur-Tikamgarh section of the line, so hopefully Lalitpur-Satna part will be opened first for the commercial run, but don't expect it before end of year 2010.

Hi!
This time Election commission has spoiled the game.
The Election Commission has delayed the Flag off ceremony of the train, due to Elections in MP region.

We need to wait a little more. Polling is completed but still no fresh news about the flagging off the train on this new route.
Keep watching this space for more updates on this topic.

Finally Khajuraho is linked through Rail route

Hi!

First train from Khajuraho flagged off by Railway Minister on 26th Decemebr 2008. It is passenger train and will run between Khajuraho and Jhansi via Mahoba, Kulpahar, Harpalpur, Mauranipur. It is a link shuttle train and 5 coaches of this train will be added to Jhansi-Allahabad Passenger train and these coaches will be added and detached at Mahoba for onward journey to/from Khajuraho. This train will start its journey from Jhansi around 7 AM and will reach Khajuraho at around 11AM and will return back from Khajuraho at 12Noon and will reach back Jhansi at 5PM.

Soon two more link express trains will be flagged off on this route. One of the link express will be added to Uttar Pradesh Sampark Kranti Exp to/fro Hazarat Nizamuddin (Delhi) and another will be added to Bundelkhand Exp to/from Varanasi.

I'll update this thread as soon as new development happens on this or Lalitpur-Singrauli rail route.

Happy Journey

Rail booking site

hi,

the correct website address for train booking is http://www.irctc.co.in

Station name will not be available in the search box for a couple of days. For now one should use the KURJ as the destination station and the train will be displayed as 2447/2448 not as 2447A/2448A. NO idea why Railways did it? And availability of seats is ensured by not booking the tickets to intermediate stations. Ticket is available for KHAJURAHO (KURJ) as destination station.
later Railway may change it...

Happy Journey to all

khajuraho to sanchi

If I take the train from Agra to Khajuraho, and stay a few days,
how do I get from Khajuraho to Sanchi--or at least close? Do I do this by train? Any help would be appreciated!

You can get a bus (5+ hours) from Khajuraho to Jhansi, then a train from Jhansi (12.35) to Sanchi (15.57).

Jhansi-Sanchi trains.

There are loads more trains from Jhansi to Vidisha.

An interesting option if you want to do the journey overnight is.....

A bus to Satna (4 hours), then train 1072 departing Satna at 22.45 and getting to Vidisha at 06:43 (2A, 3A, SL)

Whatever train you choose, book early.

Smile Khajuraho to Sanchi

Hi,

There is no direct train from Khajuraho to Sanchi or any nearby place.
Most convenient way to reach from Khajuraho to Sanchi would be to take a train from Mahoba to Bhopal. 1070 Tulsi Express departs from Mahoba station at 20:47 every Monday and Wednesday and reaches Bhopal at 5:00 in the morning. Sanchi is around 50 Kms from Bhopal and regular buses are available. Alternately you may take a train from Bhopal to Vidisha and Sanchi is just 10 Kms from Vidisha.
There are many trains available from Jhansi to Vidisha as well.

Have a great Holiday

thanks Steve!

Steve, thanks for Khajaraho advice! I'll take it. One more question (I'm a 6-time India traveler, now an elder, and always back for more!): how does the "seating/bogie assignment" actually work when you book a train? I mean is it coincidence or serendipity that married couples often end up sharing a night sleeper, or that young foreigners get put together, or that seniors and families often share a bogie? Is there some sort of computer-generated, electronic assigning formula? Or is it done by humans? Or..... (maybe you've already posed an answer to this on your excellent train info. site). But let me know!
