2 months

Gaya-Varanasi & Varanasi-Gorakhpur - short route ( 5-7 hours), may cosnider travelling without reseravtion in general, but trains are very crowded and hence not recommended

3. and except train, there're buses ?
only if tourist buses run by reputable private agencies

Dear feminist,

In so far as Varanasi-Gaya journey (221 Kms.) is concerned,
ensure that you do a day journey (or) afternoon journey (or)
at the most evening journey, but under no circumstances, it shall be an overnight train.

As pointed out by Khak, this is a Very Heavily Overcrowded Sector.

For Varanasi-Gorakhpur Journey, you also have a dedicated 5104 Express which is a fully unreserved train, but has a convenient timings.

Varanasi/5.45.....Gorakhpur/Arr.11.10 hrs.

I think you mean to say that don't go with unreserved ticket at night - right?

What's the harm in moving at nitgh with reserved ticket?

If a person is visiting other tourism sites near Gaya, there is an overnight train to Varanasi.

It goes via a long route, passing Gaya in the middle of the night, but it is an option if overnight travel is prefered, I don't think I've recommended the train to anyone, because it only has Sleeper Class, and many would advise against overnight travel in Sleeper Class through Bihar.

Train 5109 departs Rajgir (Tu, Th & Sa only) at 22:30, then Nalanda at 22:44 and gets to Varanasi at 08:05.

Going the other way.....

Train 5110 deparst Varanasi (W, F & Su only) at 20:40 and gets to Nalanda at 05:43 and Rajgir at 06:00.

No...actually...Gaya-Varanasi is not a very long distance....so night journey is not necessary........because night journey only makes sense when you can board the train at say, 9-10 p.m. and can get down at 5-6 a.m. and thus can have a nights sleep. I think VSK meant that.

Dear Bhaswaran,

I think you meant VSP. :-)

Dear Khak,

##When I said "no overnight journey", it includes Reserved Coaches, please!!!

##Even for a distance of 221 Kms. overnight journey, either you will get night-boarding/night-landing (or) late-night boarding/ past-midnight landing!!!

##Please look at this:

Dear Feminist,

The distance by road from Gorakhpur to Sonauli (**in India) would be around 40 Kms. and an bus takes 90 minutes.
----
You have to cross the border with a proper identity card and then enter Bhairawa (**in Nepal).
----
From Bhairawa, there will be jeeps who will take you to Lumbini and bring you back to Bhairawa, and the journey time each way would be around 30 minutes.
-----
From Bhairawa, Flights take you to Khatmandu within 15 Minutes, and the Bus within 12 Hrs. From Bhairawa to Khatmandu, there are overnight services also!!!
