Train tickets undeliverable
I've got a bit of a delivery problem and would appreciate your advice. I successfully navigated the Indian Railways Site, booked my train tickets, elected for them to be delivered to the Hyatt Hotel in Kolkata and faxed a photocopy of my ID, the transaction number and a sentence advising that I give the hotel permission to accept the tickets on my behalf. I received confirmation from the hotel advising that they would receive the tickets for me.
I just checked the track your tickets status and the tickets are marked as being 'undeliverable' as the nominated person was not available. So I've read the terms and conditions of delivery. I'm told that the courier would have left a card with contact details and I need to contact the courier to advise when I'll be available to collect the tickets. Can anyone recommend how I resolve this given that I'm still in Australia? I'll be in Kolkata for one night before moving on to Darjeeling and Sikkim and only in Kolkata for a few hours again before catching the train I've bought the tickets for. Should I contact the hotel? Or change the delivery name? Or maybe fax the hotel with some more information? thanks in advance. |

You may E-Mail the Hotel requesting them to contact the courier, arranging to collect your tickets from them and retaining them till your personally collecting them on so- and-so date.
The Hotel will present a copy of your mail to the courier and will hopefully get your tickets.

Thanks Shimla,
I've faxed the hotel requesting they contact the courier for me. Included with the fax was a new letter of permission. I'll update this thread when I hear more. |

All you need to do is let the hotel know that some stuff is coming for you, then just put 'ARRIVING GUEST' on the name of the tickets, so that way the hotel will look it up on the computer, then they'll sign for it. All the courier wants to do is get rid of the letter and end his day, couriers HATE attempting to re-deliver the same stuff the next day.
I did the above mentioned, and I got my rail tickets delievered without incident. |

The hotel has agreed to contact the courier for me and accept the tickets, so I think it's just about sorted.
If anyone needs to contact the courier that delivers the tickets for IRCTC they use Overnite Express Limited, http://www.overnitenet.com/index.asp Thanks for the tip Phobal, given the tickets are already booked I will also contact the courier and advise them to deliver to 'arriving guest' with the hope that this works. |

After reading this thread, I got worried about my train tickets. I sent a quick email to the hotel (budget, paharganj, hardly the hyatt) and they said they got them with no problem. I didn't even put "arriving guest".
Uh...at least they said they did, I suppose I shouldn't say no problem until I am seated on the train and it is pulling out of the station. I'll be as positive as I can...the tickets WILL be there! Hope it works out for us both, pappadumelf! |

I wonder if it might be easier for a smaller hotel to recieve the tickets as there'd be fewer staff to communicate with.
I'd guess Hawaiiyogagirl that your tickets have arrived. You can confirm it by checking the IRCTC website, log on and check the 'track your ticket' button under the general listing on the left hand side of the page. You then need to enter your PNR number and it will open a new screen that displays the progress of delivery. This is how I discovered that my tickets hadn't been received. |

Maybe so... my only experience is of having tickets delivered to a guesthouse with just a few staff. I did put 'arriving nn July' after my name, though. There were no problems.

I am also having trouble getting my tickets delivered. I have friends in Delhi and was using their address fro delivery. They could not be delivered because I was not there; my understanding was that someone else could accept them for me?? Do I need to give my friends a copy of my I.D. and a letter saying that they can accept them for me or am I better to get them sent to the budget accommodation where we are staying?
Thanks everyone ![]() |

I have accepted tickets for another person.
If they send you all the details like the PNR, address they booked it from, all this stuff, it should be OK. My experience with the couriers is that they just ask, 'what name?' and that's it.... |
