Train tickets - group booking

I enquired wether it was possible to book e-tickets for a group of 10 people travelling together from delhi to Anandpur Sahib (or even an internet booking to collect tickets from Delhi station) for March. I received the following reply today:

Dear Customer,

Please note that the party / group booking facility is not available at our website. Please contact Chief Reservation Supervisor of the nearest reservation Office for party / group booking.

Anybody know a way of booking from london rather than having to get to India to book?

Thanks in advance.

The easy way out is for two people to register and book (6+4).

Train Group Booking

Is there any way to book group tickets for 35 people from Sealdah to Jalpaiguri?
Is there any concession for booking group tickets?
What if someone from the group needs to replaced by somebody else?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes it should be possible to do a group booking though not sure if there is a concession for this.

Normally you should prepare a list of people travelling and write a letter addressed to the appropriate railway officer (not sure who would that be !) stating the purpose of your travel and seeking his permission.

Once the officer signs the authorization letter you can take the letter to the local booking counter along with the list of people travelling and the booking would be done there.

Also, i think there shouldn't be any problem if few people of the group gets replaced by someone else. The TTE wouldn't mind since this was a group booking.

Just prepare list of passengers and visit Nearest Railway Head, and inquired for Railway Officer.

I do not think there will be any concession on it.

You can not book it 90 Days before actual Day of travel and tickets should booked subject to availability.

There are no discounts for group booking.
When we had booked tickets for 30 people we had to book them in 5 different slips at the reservation counter. We had multiple people in the queue and were able to book them all in the same berth (as it was 60 days in advance (at the time 60 was max)).

I don't know if there is any way to book all of them at the same time (unless you are booking the whole coach which you are not).

The railway reservation office is your best bet as it gives you control over the coach being selected (if booking enough in advance)

Normally only a blood relative can replace a person. But when you travel, the TTE doesn't check if the sex and age is close to the person travelling (if not e-ticket). Another reason to book the ticket at the railway reservation center.

Maybe someone with recent experience in group booking can give a better suggestion.

Contact PRS Counter (Chief Reservation Officer) & request for the same!!
The written application should contain the names, age, gender of all the passengers.

For large groups travelling together, Indian Railways also provide exclusive coaches that can be attached to regular trains* according to your programme. Besides the convenience of travelling according to your own itinerary, you can also enjoy total privacy and comfort.
These Tourist Cars are available in Second Class, Sleeper Class, First Class and Air-conditioned First Class with facilities for cooking. The upper class coaches have amenities such as linen, bathroom,
sitting cum dining room, attendants compartment, etc.
*Special coaches cannot be attached to certain trains due to
operational restrictions. You must apply to the Chief Passenger Transportation Manager at least 30 days in advance and not more than 6 months prior to the commencement of the journey.
Your application must include details such as destination, route to be followed, halts enroute and the specific train to which the Tourist Car/Railway Carriage is to be attached. Initially, you need to pay Rs. 50, 000/- per coach as security deposit to the Station Manager of the originating station. Charges will then be calculated on a point-to-point basis. Full adult Mail/Express fares will be charged for actual number of persons travelling or the marked carrying capacity of the coach, whichever is higher. The charges must be paid in full, atleast 48 hours in advance of the departure of the train to which these coaches are to be attached.
The charges will include fare, reservation charge, development charge, detention charge and empty haulage charge,

I think this is not feasible. Contact some good agent in advance (before the commencement of booking tickets three months earlier) if you need so many tickets in any particular train. The berths may not be all in one coach but still they may be able to get hold of the reservations as there are many quotas etc. Otherwise it is impossible to get them personally.
