train status enquiry

I'm currently in Darjeeling, escaping the heat of the west. It is glorious over here.

Although I don't want to leave, I have looked at my train ticket and am uncertain as to what the status means. Can anybody help me figure this out:

Status Report NJP to SDAH

S#1 Booking Status: W/L 12 Current Status: CNF
S#2 Booking Stuats: MW/L 1 Current Status: 3 CNF

I appreciate any help. Thanks!

If traveling First Class Air Con (or First Class non air con), the berths will be decided in the hours before a train departs. (there are lots of reasons for this)

Most other classes will give a CNF reservation if another carriage is to be added to the train before it departs.
(Found - along with many other relevant threads - by entering "Indian railway booking status CNF" into Google. )

Thanks for that Mickey, but just to add to the confusion that is 'Indian Railways'.......

The quote is correct if the CNF was the first number, but not the 2nd number.

(the following isn't a great example to explain the difference.

You're tickets are now confirmed, you'll find out your carriage and berth numbers on the reservation chart on the station platform.

S#1 & S#2 - Why S1 + S2? (Sleeper Class carriage 1 would be S1, but there's no way you'd know that at the moment)

MW/L 1 - Where does the 'M' come from?

3 CNF - Where does the '3' come from?

W/L 12 & MW/L 1 - Why have you got W/L 12 & W/L 1? where the tickets booked together?

Perhaps they are merely typos by the OP? You can see that the second line says "Stuats" instead of Status - suggesting that this information was typed out rather than copied and pasted.

Yes, that's what I was thinking too, I nearly didn't reply.

I'm not 100% sure the above statement is correct, it's been playing on my mind since I typed it, but my head just isn't in waitlist mode, I think I'll have to search out some old tickets to check.

Dear Steven,

There is a problem in the software, which is witnessed only for the second name in the "Waitlisted Ticket". Here M denotes Male. This "3" should be part of his Age.
