Train options from Goa to Bombay

Hi,

Me and the bf need to get to Bombay from Goa on 1st January 2010.

1. We were wondering if the day train journey will be a good idea for the scenic view? Will it be worth putting extra time in this in January?

Looked up schedules and Jan Shatabdi looks good as it gives us enough time to pack up and get to Madgaon station from Candolim.
Second option is Mandovi express (which leaves earlier, will need to get up pretty early to catch this one).

2. I heard the fumes are a problem when train goes through tunnels. Is that still the case??

If yes, we will have to get AC coach.

3. Will the views still be worth the time from inside tinted AC windows??

4. How safe is AC coach of Jan Shatabdi, with reagrds to luggage getting stolen? We plan on using chain and lock. Will that be enough? Can we roam around after luggage is chained?

Thanks...

PS: The cheapest flight that I could find for the same journey is Indigo Rs 2328 per person... departs goa @5.10pm and arrives at bombay @6.25pm.

Haha.. thank you...
So I guess AC on Jan Shatabdi. And a cab in the night from Dadar station to home sweet home. Will probably pre-arrange the cab.

Regards.

Hey....

there is no doubt that train journey will be the best from Mumbai to Goa. Konkan railways are main attraction when you are going to Goa from Mumbai. If you want to travel by AC the windows will be closed and you may miss the beautiful scene outside. Janasatabdi is a good train. yes ofcourse lock all your luggage before you roam and dont forget to take it with you when you are finally leaving the train

you can write to me at rajdeep1510@gmail.com for more information.

Regards

Thanks Rajdeep1510...
I was wondering if we could book AC coach tickets and roam around in Non-AC to see the views.. or maybe just go stand by the door for the AC coach.

Aha...
If we are in a mood to fight, we'll go for that... otherwise I guess we'll roam around one at a time

Let me know if you need any assistance at train

I think travelling in a non-ac compartment wont be that bad. still if its uncomfortable then go for ac one...
Happy travelling....

Just one more thing...

How come I dont see the Goa Bombay Jan Shatabdi at irctc.co.in??

I just tried to use 'Plan my travel' on that site and tried Madgaon to Mumbai CST/Dadar.. either way I didnt see Jan Shatabdi among the trains they showed there.

Can we book this train on irctc.co.in?? Or is there some other website for this train?? Did anyone else see this problem, or am I missing something here?

What is the class you are selecting? It should be CC (Chair Car)

Rajdeep, unless it is some specific info, it would be better to share in the forum so that others can also benefit out of that. So, before you give out your mail address, see whether it is some info which cannot be discussed in open forum. Also, giving your mail can ensure taht spammers flood your mail box.

zsonia2993, book CC in the Jan Shatabdi, you'll be glad of the comfortable seat to sooth your sore head.

You can lock your luggage and wander up and down the train, but be extra careful with your luggage when boarding the train and at Mumbai, this train attracts a lot of tourists, so perhaps a lot of luggage thieves, but don't be overly concerned, India is still very safe.

You'll find the Jan Shatabdi departs slightly later (maybe 70-80 minutes later) in Jan, the timetable being shown at the moment is the monsoon timetable, and the trains are slightly slowed down to watch for landslides, the train in Jan will be timed to arrive in Mumbai at the same time.

It's also not the way we operate on indiamike.

We suspicious westerners are not used to Indian friendliness and get suspicious when someone seems over friendly, we often just assume the person is a travel agent.
