Mumbai to Hospet

My query is directed at Steven, who I must say has done a huge service to IMers looking for train info.

Steve,I plan to catch the train from Mumbai to Goa and then on to Hospet (Hampi) and back to Goa to catch a flight to Delhi. Is there any direct train from Mumbai to Hospet? That way I could go first to Hampi and then to Goa.Please help.

HH

See the following link.

Mumbai to Hospet (Hampi) good connection through Hubli

I wonder, if none of the options in that link appeal, would Mumbai-Goa-Hampi then an overnight train from Hospet to Hyderabad or Bangalore, then an early flight to Delhi, would that be a good option?

The Bangalore route is well timed and saves wasting daylight hours traveling.

Mumbai to Hospet

Thank you Steve for your quick reply and information.Samit's site is truly an eye opener! Thanks to the detailed map I have got some bearing on my plans.....they are:

Train no.1041 Chennai Exp dep.14:00 from CST arrives next morning at 06:15 at Guntakal jn.From Guntakal I plan to catch a bus to Hospet/Hampi.I am presuming it would take 3-4 hours.

For the return journey I plan on Catching theAmaravathi Exp No2847 departing Hospet at 06:30 arriving Madgaon at 13:43.

Thank you once again Steven.

I don't see the point of travelling an extra 2.5 hours to get to Guntakal, when you can get off at Raichur and get a bus, unless you're familiar with Guntakal.

Train 6381 departs Mumbai CST daily at 15:45 and gets to Raichur at 05.40
Train 2163 departs Dadar daily at 20:30 and gets to Raichur at 08:48
Train 1013 departs Lokmanya Tilak daily at 22:30 and gets to Raichur at 11:48

Raichur is about 170kms from Hospet and connected via a direct road, there should be busses at least every couple of hours, more likely every hour, the bus should pass Hampi and should take 3-4 hours.

(I since found out that there are buses every hour, and that the bus stand is about 1km from the train station, also that the roads were good.)
