Train Jaipur to Kochi?

The only train I can find on the Indian railways website going from Jaipur to Ernakulum seems to be the once a week Train #2978. Anyone know of any other options out of Jaipur or Udaipur? (Still struggling with my options from Raj south!)

Can someone tell me the route the Jaipur to Ernakulum train takes i.e. the main stations along the way?

Thanks,
Kay

The train starts in Jaipur on Fridays at 10:00, then goes via Sawai Madhoppur (Ranthambhore), Kota (14:00)(close to Bundi), Ratlam, then overnight via Vadodara (Baroda), Vassai Rd (north of Mumbai), Panvel (S. E. of Mumbai), then a daytime journey along the very scenic route through the Western Ghats and along the Konkan coast to Madgaon (Goa), and further down the coast to Kankanadi (Mangalore), then overnight down the coast via Calicut to Ernakulam (Cochin).

A similar timed train (though more expensive) is the Rajdhani Express that departs Nizamuddin (Delhi) at 11:00 on Tuesdays and Sundays and calls at Kota at 15:40, then follows the above route.

From Udaipur you can take the overnight train to Ahmedabad, then freshen up, have some breakfast, go to see Gandhi's Ashram, then back to the train station for a 11:50 departure (5 days a week) that will join the above route at Vadodara and travel for the rest of the day & ALL of the next day and arrive at Ernakulam at 22:45.

All the times are different if you're traveling before November because a Monsoon timetable is in operation until then.

If you use the Indian Railway website to check the timings you will only get the monsoon timings (though the prices will be correct).

Check the Konkan railway website (link in my first reply), then scroll the cursur over 'Passenger Info' and click on 'Timetable'.
