The 90 day advance reservation period for booking trains has been extended for a further 90 days, this is still only on trial so could end at the end of September.

If I understand it correctly, it means trains running in December can be booked in September.

Trains on the Konkan route (Gujarat, Mumbai and even Delhi to Goa and Kerala) get booked early for December, so book early.

Not any more.....

Three months after deciding to increase the advance reservation

However, all bookings made up to July 14 under the Advance
Reservation Period of 90 days would remain intact. Also,

booking trains for the first 2 weeks of October?

Just a reminder.

From the 15th (Sunday), the advance reservation period for booking trains will go back to 60 days, at the moment we can book 90 days in advance.

If you want to book trains up till 15th October (if booking today) or 16th October (if booking tomorrow), you will still be able to until 11.30 PM Indian time on Saturday.

Booking through Internet is allowed from 5 AM to 11.30 PM (IST)
23:30 - 18:00 GMT

Timetable for local trains?

Hello,
Does anybody know if timetables of 'local' trains are also available on the internet? As an example I am looking at schedule of trains between Agra Fort and Fathepur Sikri; Steven mentions trains 282, 284 and 294 but I cannot find these on the Indian Railways Online Passenger Reservation Site Providing Availability etc.. web site nor on the Northern Railways one. My travel guide (Edition 2007) even mentions 8 daily trains between Agra Fort and FTS! All I see between those two stations are the two 'long distance' trains (numbers with 4 digits) that stop there.

Same question between TJ and Trichy, between Bangalore and Mysore and between Mysore and Hassan. No track of 3-digits local trains.

Thanks and sorry for this basic question,
Christophe

Passenger trains are only listed if they have bookable classes, most of the 3 digit passenger trains have only non-air con classes.

When you do a search, select 'all class'.

I will have all the regional timetables in a couple of weeks, so can advise you of any passenger trains that are not listed.

The following is from another post, it's a good way to find trains and doesn't have pop-ups.

Quote:
Go to the following page.

TRAINS Between A Source Destination Pair

Source Station Name - Agra Fort

Destination Station Name – FATEHPUR SIKRI

Class - All Class

Then click on Get It.

(Indian Railways is now 'day of week' sensitive, so if the journey you plan to take will be on a Monday, make sure you enter a date that is also a monday to view all trains that run on a monday)

onto next page........to get availability.

Click on circle next to train number.

Please check Days Of Run as not all trains are daily.

Look at top left of screen.....

Enter Your Journey Date - 20 - Oct. (for example)

Enter Quota - General or Foreign Tourist Quota

Look at the top right of the screen for Classes, click on the circle next to the class you want (make sure it's on the same line as the train you want).

Then click on Get Availability

If you want to see a few different dates for the same train, do not select a date, the site will give you the availability for the selected train for the next 6 times it runs, and then the next 6 and so on.

This site can be slow.

Thanks Steven. Is it true to say that on the Indian Railways Online Passenger Reservation Site Providing Availability etc.. websites, there will be no track of the trains that have only 2S class? Are there the one called passenger trains?

Where on the internet are you looking for the regional trains then?

How many daily trains from AF to FTS do you see?
Thanks so much,
Christophe

2S is a bookable class, so any trains with 2S will be on the IR website.

'Passenger' trains is an Indian term, it means trains that are not 'Mail' or 'Express' trains, eg - Jodhpur Mail, or Delhi Express.

The 'passenger' trains are normally slow and stop at most stations.

I'm not, I have some old timetables for passenger train info, the new one's will arrive in a couple of weeks.

2 trains.
282
9038/9040 (depending on day of week)

There used to be more trains, and probibly still is, but they will only have 2nd class unreserved carriages so they won't be included in the IR website.

Air Deccan fly Simla to Delhi (and maybe Jagson too)

But maybe the best way is to get the scenic toy train from Simla to Kalka, then an afternoon or overnight train to Delhi.

Follow the instructions below.

Go to the following page.

Source Station Name - SIMLA

Destination Station Name – KALKA

Unhappy Bhuj to Rajasthan?????

Greetings to all my gurus!

I'm trying to figure out how to get from Bhuj to Jaisalmer or Bikaner (I'm not picky!) and the schedule looks really complicated. Any advice???

Maybe I'll bite the bullet and fly instead.

Question IRCTC Query

Hello
I am trying to book my train tickets for Goa-Kerala-Chennai in advance of my arrival in India and have been on the IRCTC website. However when I tick the 'e-ticket' button and fill in all the required details, a message pops up saying 'Wait Listed ticket reservation is not permitted on your e-ticket .
If you wish to book a waitlisted ticket please replan the same journey for i-ticket'. What does this mean? I don't really want an i-ticket and have to try to arrange delivery to the various places I will be staying. How do I successfully book an e-ticket from home??
Thanks

Shirley, this means that your train is fully booked for the date and class you want and that there is a waitlist: in this situation the system will not let you book an e-ticket.

Which date and train are you trying to book? Maybe find an alternative class/date/train?

You can get a direct train from Bhuj to Jaipur 7 days a week, however, 3 (or 4) of those days the train takes a faster route (avoiding Ahmedabad by going direct to Palanpur), the train is called the Bhuj-Beraely express.

From Jaipur (I think the train arrives at Jaipur at about 7 or 8 in the morning) you can get a late departing overnight train to Bikaner or Jaisalmer, or a late afternoon departing train to Jaisalmer (arriving early morning).

The late afternoon departure goes via Bikaner (arriving late at night) then on to Jaisalmer, but this train has only bookable 2nd class seats (2S) to Bikaner then Sleeper Class (not air con) to Jaisalmer, the same train has carriages added to it at Bikaner, hence the diferent class options.

The late afternoon departure would need to be booked in 2 sections if you wanted to go all the way to Jaisalmer, the first part is the Jaipur-Bikaner Intercity Express (there is a chance thqat this train can only be booked 30 days in advance), then the Bikaner-Jaisalmer overnight train.

Sorry, I can't offer more info, I'm on holiday and no time to check the Indian Railway website.

Shirley, the pop-up message is just an information message, simply click 'OK' (or whatever it says) and carry on with your booking.
