Hey Steven (or any kind soul who could help me ),

could you help me a bit about bedding?

I read through some threads and found that beds are made around 8pm. When will be the "beds" made to normal seats again? My question surely sounds stupid , but thinking about to catch a train at 05:30 and travel till 10:35 (Delhi-Gwalior). Right now I have imagination as us just trample in to the coach, wake up everyone while we get our bed then in 1 hour time we make them back to seats.

Thanks!

If you are talking AC classes (2 and 3 at least, it might be done for you in 1), they give you the sheets and blanket, and you make your bed whenever you want to go to bed (middle/upper berth) or by agreement for lower berth.

Same is true of the reverse; subject to the fact that, in general, India sleeps early and rises early.

But if people in your compartment want to get up before your bedtime, you'd be able to switch to a top berth!

What class are you travelling?

Thanks for the answer Nick! Was thinking about sleepers or 3AC (actually I think even 3AC is pointless for such a short ride in the morning).

Later would have some 2AC trains which depart during night (22:00-23:00), but we would get on at the starting point, so wouldnt cause such an elephant in china shop effect

In winter most people on a train would still be sleeping at 5:30 in the morning.
If you have to travel from New Delhi to Gwalior in the morning it may be better to opt for a all sitting train like Shatabdi Express which covers the distance in just over 3 hours and has CC and EC class only.(Train No 2002).

Train No 2002 runs on all days except Friday, when it runs as Train No 2002A.

Thumbs up Train ticket printed - Well done

Well, with the help of Stephen Ber and Beach, I managed to have a nice little e-ticket in my hand. I wouldnt say it was easy despite all the hard work put into helping us to suss the system out. I was going to have my ticket delivered but decided that maybe the e-ticket seemed the easier option. Once I had got through the registration, a trauma in itself. I put in the hotels name and address, phone number etc. for home address and office address, thanks to everyones assistance. One of the problems, I couldnt find India to start with, it is at the very top of the listing, not in alphabetical order. Then I couldnt find Delhi, because its actually New Delhi in the city section. After a series of time-outs, I eventually got through the registering stage. Yipee, but then I started to book my tickets, this stage was easy, until I got to the paying bit, then you need to be registered on the bank site, so I registered and then lo and behold lost my booking, so once registered with a nice password that I could only just remember at this stage, I started again. Nipped through the booking stage now, no problem, through to the bank site, everything seemed to be going great, my little line was extending at the bottom of my page to show that something was happening, then it said transaction could not be completed, connection error. Urghh. At this stage I was close to giving up but I would not be defeated, so I had a nap, and a cup of coffee ready to go through it all again. At last, jump for joy, it went through and in my hand I now have an electronic ticket, now to go through it again for another trip. Should be easy now though. I am not sure where I am sitting, who I am next to, or what the meal is, but I have a train ticket.
I would like to say I could not have done it without IndiaMike.com thank goodness for this site. Keep up the good work.

Easy when you know how.

If it's any consolation, it's the same for most people, whenever I have these problems, I just try to do it as fast as possible, and if that fails, I just try later, no problem.

What train (number) are you booked onto, what class, and what seat/berth*?

*(see Coach No/Seat No/Berth No/ Status section, should read like...AS2/0039/Confirmed)

Then we can tell you what to expect.

Smile Train from Delhi

Hi its nice to know I am not really stupid and other people have problems also. We are on the 2015 to Jaipur in AC Chair class. I would have liked the Executive, but you cant seem to book that one. Is that because there isnt Exec on this particular train?
Thanks for your help.

No time to check....

I'm guessing that's the Ajmer Shatabdi.

Exec chair class doesn't have it's own place on the Indian Railways website, I think you have to select 1A.

Train to Jaipur

Hi
yes it is the Ajmer Shtbdi. Is there a chance of upgrading when we get there?

Hi everybody!
Is it illegal, if a small, self-employed Tour Organiser makes
Bulk Railway Booking for his tour customers in India?
I heard that the present RTSA license issued (Once in a bluemoon)
is valid for non-bulk booking only and NOT for Bulk booking. Is
it true? Any experienced tourism professionals & lawers please
reply!

If there are seats left.

Just get to your train carriage 20 - 30 minutes early and have a word with the train man.

You should be getting to all your train carriages 20 - 30 minutes early, there's loads to watch, and you'll be more relaxed so will pay more attention to your luggage.
