You can book tickets online and print the ticket on your home printer.

As steven_ber says above, there is no direct train from Delhi to Nawalgarh, you would have to change at Rewari. Changing at Jaipur is more roundabout (look at a map) but if you were going to Jaipur anyway then Nawalgarh by train from there works well. It's rather useless for you, but FYI there is also a passenger train from Rewari that stops at Nawalgarh:

462NW REWARI SIKAR PASSENGER (depart 14:20 arrive 19:27)

Per steven_ber, it would be far easier to take a bus!!

steven_ber already beat me to the punch, but now that the e-ticket option is available, I see no reason to do it any other way! I think it is even the default option on the booking site.

Cheers,
- Peter

Thanks for the info on the trains - I posted too soon (before reading the last page) and e-ticketing.

Does anyone know for sure about the road conditions between Delhi and Nawalgarh? Are the buses reliable? I'd like to avoid Jaipur if I can, and the train switch in Rewari doesn't seem to easy.

Hey VicZ. i'm heading to Nawalgarh from delhi as well. As per the info provided by Steven, I'll be taking Train 2461 from Delhi at 20:50, arriving at Rewari at 22:41, followed by Train 9733 (SHEKHAWATI EXP) departing REWARI at 01:05 and arriving at NAWALGARH at 06:07. i guess i'm a lazy person, so its less of a hassle.

Hello Ingal

Can you let me know how this journey goes?

How you find Rewari, and if the rumours of bandits roaming the train stations with machetes are true?

Only joking.

Varanasi-Allahabad-Agra

Hey! First Ihave to give the congratulations for the great work Steven has been doing here! Amazing.

I couldn't find a way from Varanasi to Allahabad and then to Agra.

Notice that I 'll be going in january, during the kumbh mela...so it probably gets more complex.
What's the best way to go trough this route?

Thanks!
Henrique

Handy Wikipedia page for quick station codes? List of railway stations in India

Quote:
This article contains a list of railway stations in India. This list contains 3,467 station names and codes. The total number of railway stations in India is estimated to be between 7,000 and 8,000.
Apparently "Downloaded and reformatted from official [Indianrail] list" but I at least can't find it there (not very handy with that site).

See also their Rail transport in India and Indian Railways pages.

Hum..

Should I be booking some trains for my February 17, 2007 trip to India now or can it wait til January (ie a month ahead)?

I keep changing my itinerary and it seems crazy to book unless I'm sure, so perhaps I don't have much of a choice - just looking for reassurance that this will likely be 'ok'.

need help understanding on line train bookings!!

Hello Steven,

could you be so kind to explain if I can book my ticket on line and get it at the railway station the same day I depart or I must have it sent (in India??)...??

I'm trying to book 2 seats (2A) on the train n. 4033 jammu mail from Delhi to Pathankot (going to Dharamsala) which is supposed to be departing from Delhi at 21.15. It tells me that (in general quote) there are 07 free seats in that class and the fare is IR 802...is this the right fare?

Thank you for your help!...I'm asking Steven but anyones suggestion is welcome!!

Martolina

Hello Martolina and welcome to indiamike.com

First go to http://www.irctc.co.in/ website (it's been on & off all day).

Booking through Internet is allowed from 5 AM to 11.30 PM (IST)
23:30 - 18:00 GMT

You can book an I-ticket and have it sent to a hotel in Delhi, ot you can book an E-ticket and print it on your home computer.

You can no longer collect tickets from the train station in Delhi.

Hi Steven,

thanks for your quick reply! My only doubt is: in order to make an on line booking I first have to register to the irctc site , correct? in there they ask me all sort of questions included my address and contacts but it seems as it is only for indian citizens...I don't have an address in India and want to simply print my ticket and jump on the train when it's time!!
How does it work?

Thanks again!

Adding the following to any thread I can think of to avoid repeat questions.

I-Ticket = book on the net, have it delivered to an address in India, a hotel or travel agent for example, you can no longer pick these tickets up at the station.

E-Ticket = Book on the net, then print the ticket on your home computer.

Advance reservations.

Most tickets can only be booked 60 days in advance, a few tickets can only be booked 30 days in advance. (Some Intercity and daytime, short distance trains)

Opening times for train bookings.

Booking through Internet is allowed from 5 AM to 11.30 PM (IST)
23:30 - 18:00 GMT

You have to register before you can buy/book and tickets.

Anyone can register, you don't need to be an Indian citizen.

The address and zip code can be confusing, have a look at some of the info in this thread.

Good luck.
