People say that exchanging e-mails with the IRCTC staff is easy and that they are very helpful, so give it a go. You'll probibly have to still pay the booking fee and cancellation fee for the i-ticket, then the booking fee for the e-ticket, but give it a try and let us know what happens. If the i-ticket has already been delivered you may also have to pay a delivery charge. Make sure to mention the PNR number of your i-ticket. Good luck. |

I emailed them and they got back to me very fast. You cannot change tickets over unfortunately.
We are now planning on canceling our i-tickets and repurchasing them as e-tickets as we have had trouble with the delivery. Can I do this from Australia? It says on the IRCTC site that you have to go to a reservations counter India? Would be great if we could do it now though. Also do they deduct it from the credit card or give you credit with them? Hope this makes sense Thanks heaps Lauren |

I'm surprised they weren't more helpful.
You can only get a refund on an i-ticket by going to a ticket window at a station, you will need to fill in a reservation form (it's also a cancellation form), the money will then be refunded into your bank account.(minus the cancellation fee) You'll need to cancel the ticket a day in advance to avoid a 50% cancellation fee. Understanding Reservation Forms. |

Bad Noose
Train Robbery
Nearly three dozen heavily armed criminals on Indore-Patna Express on Thursday night unleashed a reign of terror when they brutalized and beat up passengers, including at least half a dozen women, before robbing them of cash and valuables to the tune of over Rs. 10 lakh, railway police in Patna confirmed. |

Shekhawati Express
Hi, hope someone can help me on the following:
can anyone confirm that the Shekhawati Express is currently not leaving from the Sarai Rohilla Station in Delhi, but from Rewari Station. Rewari Station is abt 75km off from Delhi? what is the best way to get there? Is it possible to buy a ticket for Delhi to Bikaner with a stop in Nawalgarh for a few days? or do i have to buy it sector (delhi to Nawalgarh) by sector (nawalgarh to Bikaner)? |

The Shekhawati Express now starts from Rewari, but I think Rewari is closer to 100Kms from Delhi.
The train departs about 01:00 in the morning, and if my memory serves me well, gets to Nawalgarh at about 05:40, so going to Rewari will not get you a nights sleep on the train. I've heard the roads are good and that buses connect Delhi with Nawalgarh, but you'll have to ask others about the buses. Quote:

We were looking into staying in Nawalgarh, at an eco-lodge called Apani Dhani, and according to their "how to reach us" page (http://www.apanidhani.com/apani/location.htm) it is not advisable to go by bus from Delhi to Nawalgarh. I think that I've read elsewhere (LP?) that the roads are not very good. Cheers, - P |

Train 2461 departs (old) DELHI daily at 20:50 and gets to REWARI at 22:41. (2A, 3A, SL)
Train 9733 (SHEKHAWATI EXP) departs REWARI daily at 01:05 and gets to NAWALGARH at 06:07. (1A, 2A, SL.) It would be easier to get a bus, or to go to Nawalgarh from Bikaner or Jaipur. Quote:
If you want a guarenteed seat, book ahead, but train 2461 only takes an hour and 50 minutes, so I'd be tempted to just turn up, buy a 2nd class single and get on an unreserved carriage. It may be packed, it may not be. Last edited by steven_ber : Nov 28th, 2006 at 02:14. |

Vandalism - The burning Train
Deccan Queen set ablaze as Dalits protest
November 30, 2006 By Indo Asian News Service Pune, Nov 30 (IANS) The Deccan Queen train was set on fire near here Thursday by arsonists during Dalit protests against the vandalism of a statue of Dalit icon B.R. Ambedkar that also sparked violence elsewhere in Maharashtra leaving two people dead in police firing in Nashik. None of the passengers were hurt because the demonstrators who stopped the Pune-Mumbai train at Ulhasnagar, about 135 km from here, ordered people to disembark and get away, witnesses and authorities said. The arsonists then coolly set fire to the coaches of the nine-car train, which was quickly enveloped in leaping flames. By the time fire fighters reached, the train had been practically destroyed. |

ticket purchasing
I heard that one can do ticketless railway reservations rather than get a ticket delivered to an Indian address. I can give an address of a family I'll be staying with in New Delhi and a letter authorizing the recipients to accept the tickets, but am nervous about this. Recommendations?
Thanks! |
