Great suggestion, but not one of mine.

I may have suggested attacking the man with a knife, or taking all your clothes off and pretending your a chicken, both of these work, but the refund idea is perhaps best.

Ignoring them could also be an option, I believe! I don't believe in telling lie for such a small thing!!

I had a query, I have booked 3A train tickets from Kolkata to Kalka for a 6 week later period, but they are on wait list.
On checking the tickets from Asansol on the same train(distance from Howrah -> Asansol - 219 KMs), the tickets are available(The quota system).

So I wanted to know if I book from Asansol and board the train from Howrah, is that going to be considered as an offence ? Any fines/issues for the same ?

That will be an offence. Since the ticket you booked is valid from Asansol and Howrah.

A way out could be to purchase a general class ticket and travel till Asansol in the general compartment. Or board your train and if the TTE checks your ticket pay the difference amount. This is possible only if the seats are vacant in 3A.

You are right. It's quota. Buy ticket Howrah to Asansol in 3A and again Asansol to Kalka by 3A. This way you need to pay a little extra. Hope you will get almost same coach. If you request TTE about this, he may allot you same berth from Howrah itself.

##This is possible ONLY if that particular berth is NOT allotted to anybody for HWH-ASN Journey. Even if it is vacant, the TTE will demand the Fare applicable for HWH-ASN.

Kanyakumari to Dibrugarh train

Once there, click on the train number or train name

Now, in the bottom half of the page, scroll down to see all the stations the train calls at, when you get to the bottom, you'll see the carriage positions in the train, as far as I'm aware, this is new, and I've only found 2 trains that didn't have the carriage position info, and there was a reason for that.

Go to the top of the page again and click on 'AV' in the SL column, you will get the availability numbers for CAPE-Dibrugarh.

But now you can change the stations without having to do a full new search, go to the 'FROM' column and click on 'CAPE', in the top right of the page you will see all the stations, click on Coimbatore (the CAPE that you clicked on will now show CBE), now click on AV again, this time you'll get the availability numbers for CBE to Dibrugarh.

You can change the 'FROM' station as well as the 'TO' station as many times as you like, a very useful improvement for finding quotas on certain trains.

For tourists, first look at availability numbers between the places you want to travel, if no joy, change the destination station (in the 'TO' column) so you book to a later station, then check availability again, if this doesn't work, try changing the 'FROM' station and doing an avaialability check (so you book from a station before your station, you can always change your boarding station later, ask here for details before you do this)

If none of this helps you find availability, ask here and one of our helpful members will try to find something for you. (as long as you give them enough info, class, date, train, number travelling)

How do you send feedback to erail?
I noted a train shown as thrice weekly, while I know that it has been changed to daily a while ago. Does it sync up automatically after a lag or do they need to be notified?
Also, they show tatkal fare for 1A (not EC), but that is not applicable to 1A, which seems to be some oversight. Can I inform them about this to be corrected?

hi Steven, I am looking for connecting trains from gokarna road (GOK) to YADGIRI (YG) on 4th Dec, can you please guide me for some connecting train options for this journey.

So far the only option I have is travelling by road to HUBLI then taking train no 17004 from HUBLI (UBL) to YADGiri (YG). Thanks in advance

I'm not finding anything better, it should be a lot quicker to get to Hubli by bus, then the timing and length of journey to anywhere within a reasonable bus distance of Yadgiri just doesn't work out.

Your path, and that of the railways, seem to forever cross for this journey.

Rather than the awful arrival time at Yadgiri, I'd probably be tempted to catch the Solapur Express from Hubli to Bijapur (15:00 departure), then have a wander around Bijapur the following morning before taking buses to Yadgiri.

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this question but here goes.
Travelling 1st class tomorrow, is there anywhere online to find out which berths we have been allocated. Its 12432 which left Delhi 1 1/2 hours ago. We board at Madgeon tomorrow afternoon.
If I'm reading erail right, the first class is towards the rear of train, can anyone confirm that for todays running?

I think that it will tell you the cabin/coupe number once Charting has occurred. Most major stations have indicators above the platform to tell you whereabouts to wait for each coach.

It's likely that you won't be able to find out your berths till 09:00 tomorrow, that's because Madgaon has it's own quota to organise, and charts won't be prepared till about 4 hours before the train departs Madgaon.

If my memory is correct, you can telephone 139 from a mobile (not landline) and follow the instructions to enter your PNR number, then you can find out your cabin letter (A-H), B, D, E & G are 2 berth coupes, A, C, F & H are 4-berth cabins.
