There is one town Nagaur(station code is NGO) between Merta road bikaner section and this train will be going via this station only not via Nagore in Tamilnadu.

http://erail.in/ Allows you to put just the first letters of a town name, then come up with whatever options it finds for you. So adding or removing an H or whatever may get you a long way here. Note for obscurer stations (that aren't listed in their standard list), you have to hit the button "all stations" at top left.

Likewise, to find possible alternative spellings of a place, I will again often revert to W'pedia, or just to the web of course.

Finally, to minimize possible disappointments, such alternative train findings should always be double-checked with the official Railways site, at http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/ .

I've no mind to cover your itinerary right now, sorry. But hope this helps some.
Here is the link for all station code . It has all station code.

I was also wondering if is it worth taking a later train from Hazrat Nizamuddin Station because it might be smaller and less of a hassle? Of course, the question, then becomes: how long would it take to get from Paharganj to Hazrat?
Sorry, been AWOL from indiamike for a while.

The Shatabdi normally departs from platform 1 at New Delhi, enter the main entrance to the station, and platform 1 will be the first platform you come to, no stairs or ramps.

Touts may try to tell you that the train is cancelled, or your ticket isn't valid, or your pants are on fire, ignore them unless your legs feel exceptionally hot.

The Taj Express from Nizamuddin isn't worth it, the time needed to get to Nizamuddin from Paharganj means you simply dont save any time, but get to Agra almost 2 hours later.

Announcing trains is easy. But on going projects have to be speded up.The Chennai Villipuram Maiyladuthurai Kumbakonam Tanjavur Trichy conversion has been going on for years and now there is only one train from Chennai to Kumbakonam which gets filled up the moment the reservation commences and you have to take a Tatkal. The priority must be given to complete the projects

Thanks Steve, very helpful and much appreciated. I booked the Shatabdi from Delhi to Agra, then booked the #2448 train from Agra to Khajuraho. I hope I did okay on the latter booking. Seems there's only a 3-tier ac sleeper on that train so I booked upper/lower side for my wife and I. Seem okay?

The side berths in 3A are good enough.

I hope you booked Wednesday's train for Tuesday night travel as the train departs at 00:25.

As you arrive at Agra Cant station for train 2448, the train will approach the staion from your right, you will be in the 2nd half of the train, look for the carriages without bars on the windows, these are the air con carriages, this train will have air con carriages towards the front of the train and towards the rear, this is because the train splits at Mahoba station, the front part will go to Manikpur and the rear part will go to Khajuraho.

I mention the above because the Khajuraho section of the train is new, and maybe the staff will not be aware of it, you don't want to find yourself at the wrong end of the train, they can be very long.

Dear Steven,
First of all I like to thank you for your wonderful threads on Indian Railways.I don't have any words to appreciate your sustained offers to us.
Now I like to ask you one thing which may sound a bit odd, but I know it is only you who can give a right answer.I have gone through your post on RAC/WL tickets, and I wanna know how much are the chances that my ticket to Haridwar by Upasana Express from Howrah in Sleeper class of 22nd September 2009 to get confirmed? It was WL 38/WL 32, when bought, and now it has gone up to WL 18.(Stagnant for last 15 days). As the time of travel will be a festive season I am a bit worried about that.

Also..can you please tell me the train (passenger) timings from Hrishikesh to Hardwar?

Thanks....

I can't accurately predict the chances of confirmation, as something is changing in September with that train, so booking isn't allowed passed that date (so i can't find out how many berths are used for this train).

However, I wouldn't be worried if I had that ticket, although there are at least 26 RAC positions to get through before you gat a confirmed berth.

They allow people to book up to at least WL 316, so on that basis, I'd say your ticket will most likely become confirmed.

Even though it's holiday season, WL 18 is such a low number given the likely number of carriages, just unused quota tickets and a few cancellations should be enough to get you confirmed berths, I'd be surprised if you didn't get confirmed.

I've not got my timetables with me and erail doesn't cover this section (no idea why), there are trains, about 4 a day, but I think you're unlikely to use them, the tourist part of Rishikesh is further east and tourists stay in Laxman Jula or High Bank or east of Rishikesh, and all these areas are a few kms away from Rishikesh, the shared autos from these areas also don't tend to pass Rishikesh railway station as it's about 2kms north west of the main road and bus stations, a shared auto from the main road (running from Laxman Jula) direct to Haridwar (across the road from Haridwar train station) will likely be your best way to get to Haridwar.

Don't miss Haridwar, it's an interesting town, and the atmosphere down by the river in the evening is really nice.

@apurba1982

Your seat will get confirmed by 22nd sept 2009 and chances are 100%.

Once we were traveling from Howrah to Kalka and our Wait List number was 68(which came down from 75 in 1 week). Our journey was very urgent and there was no way we could cancel our ticket. We just thought of impressing the TT for a single seat or as last option squeezing in to General Compartment. With 3 hours left and PNR status was still showing WL68 we reached the station and just one hour before the train's departure the Chart was showing confirmed seat for all of us 4 people.

This was unbelievable. How can 68 people cancel the ticket in just last hour of train's departure.

It's all the unused quota tickets, Foreign Tourist Quota, military quota, railway staff quota, etc.

When I was doing the RAC/Waitlist thread I kept an eye on a few trains and kept checking the availability or waitlist numbers, to my amazement, a train (Jodhpur-Varanasi) actually had more availability after the chart was prepared than to total availability for that sector, this was because very few berths had been sold, so when the unused quota tickets were added as the chart was prepared, it took the total availability above the total general quota for that sector.

Only in India.
