Delhi to Shimla
Hey, how come every time I look up the availability on the himalayan express from delhi-kalka, and kalka-shimla on the irctc website for April 28th, which is the date I want to travel, it says "date given is outside the ARP". I've tried other dates but the same message comes up, whats up with that?

OK, a few I've had stored in word documents......
Calcutta to Gaya.
Howrah and Sealdah are the main stations in Calcutta. Train 2381 departs Howrah (W, Th, Su only) at 09:25 and gets to Gaya at 15:55 (1A, 2A, 3A, SL.) Train 3151 departs Sealdah daily at 11:45 and gets to Gaya at 21:00 (2A, 3A, SL.) Train 3009 departs Howrah daily at 20:35 and gets to Gaya at 05:05 (2A, 3A, SL.) Train 2307 departs Howrah daily at 23:30 and gets to Gaya at 06:34 (2A, 3A, SL.) Train 2321 departs Howrah daily at 22:00 and gets to Gaya at 05:24 (1A, 2A, 3A, SL.) 1A = Rs 1642 2A = Rs 870 3A = Rs 570 SL = Rs 223 Howrah station has 2 main parts, the northern part (nearest Howrah Bridge) has the lower platform numbers (1 – 15), the southern part has the higher numbered platforms and is mainly for southbound trains. As you enter the southern part of the station there is a fabulous café serving all kinds of South Indian foods, a great place for breakfast (all the food is displayed on plates, so you just point to a plate), or to get a ‘Hyderabad Biryani’ to take away for your train journey. Highly recommended. Be warned, daytime trains passing through Bihar often have the emergency cord pulled to allow locals to get off the train at a station of their choice, this can cause long delays, Sleeper class carriages should also be avoided on these same trains. Gaya to Calcutta. Train 3152 departs Gaya daily at 06:35 and gets to Sealdah at 15:55. (2A, 3A, SL.) Train 2382 departs Gaya (Tu, W, Sa.) at 09:09 and gets to Howrah at 16:45. (1A, 2A, 3A, SL.) Train 3010 departs Gaya daily at 21:49 and gets to Howrah at 06:55. (2A, 3A, SL.) Train 2324 departs Gaya (M, Th.) at 22:40 and gets to Howrah at 06:20. (3A, SL.) Trains 2178 (M), 2176 (Tu, Th, Sa.) and 9305 (W, F, Su.) depart Gaya at 23:15 and get to Howrah at 06:40. (2A, 3A, SL.) Train 2312 departs Gaya daily at 23:48 and gets to Howrah at 07:25. (1A, 2A, 3A, SL.) |

Dear Mr.Sravan,
There is a tri-weekly direct travel facility from Kachiguda to Vasco. ---- There is a daily direct travel facility from Hyderabad to Londa which is 110 Kms. away from Goa. ========= By the way, are you from Hyderabad (or) a new entrant to Hyderabad? ========= V.Srinivasa Prasad 30.5.2006/14.10 hrs. |

7429 RAYALASEEMA EXP is the other possibility to get to Goa via Londa. Be aware that though the Londa-Madgaon distance is about 100kms the first 20 kms from Londa is very very bad roads via red sandstone quarries. - Gopal |

I belong to Hyderabad but I'm in America right now. I'm coming to India next month and I'm planning a trip to Goa along with my friends. Could you please tell me the best and shortest path to reach there?
Thanks, Sravan |

I do prefer train travel to bus travel anywhere, but only in India is the train journey as much a part of the holiday as the destination. |

Varanasi to Agra Fort
Steven,
We are a family of four. THere are only 17 seats & 4 FTs left on this train so I will take what I can get but otherwise, what should we state as our berth preference so that we stay together? Also, it seems I can cancel e-tickets up to 4-6 hours before departure. True? Finally, is it hard to get last minute tickets Jaipur-Jodhpur/ Jodhpur-Jaisalmer/ Jaisalmer-Delhi/ Delhi- Amritsar-Delhi last minute (2-3 days before travel? |

When bulk bookings are done, the system tries to accomodate everyone on the same coach AND close enough berths within it. When there is no option of doing it with available seats but scattered all over the coaches in a train, you WILL be allocated berths quite far apart or even separate coaches.
So, it really depends. OTOH,if you were physically booking at a reservation counter, you should be able to get an agreeable berth configuration arranged with the help of the bookiong clerk. Which is not possible with a web booking. Yes, e-tickets can be cancelled, the rules are as below. Quote:

4 Berths
Thanks for the info. I did get what seems to be 2 sides and an upper & lower, all close together. Is the 2AC configuration 4 + 2 side or 6 + 2 side?. If its 4 + 2 I might be able to get a swap of the sides with whoever is travelling... good for them & for us. Any thoughts?
