Thanks for your reply. Sad to know about that. But normally new trains announce in Budget, starts operation from 1st of July. If it really starts not before 30th September, Durga Puja traveler will miss it.

Most trains announce in the railway budget are supposed to operate from the next timetable viz.1st July. But in many cases it takes months for the rakes to be assembles/A couple of trains announced in the last budget (2008) were flagged off in Jan 2009

You buy to Haridwar, then take a bus or taxi from there.

Trains to Rishikesh
There is no direct train from Delhi to Rishikesh. Get down at Haridwar, and check the schedule for passenger trains to Rishikesh (there are three or four a day). If the timing is not convenient, take a bus or shared rickshaw taxi as Aishah suggests.

From the other thread where you gave less info.............
Not much chance of that ticket becoming confirmed, there's only 2 berths used for the Agra Fort-Varanasi section, did you by any chance book from Idgah Agra station to Varanasi? (as I often advise people to do) Idgah is 2kms from Agra Fort and has a bigger quota, a WL 5 on the Idgah quota would have a reasonable chance of becoming confirmed. An alternative is the following...... Book train 2402 from Tundla (22kms from Agra) departing at 23.30 to Mughal Sarai (16kms from Varanasi) arriving at 07.40 There's availability in 2A and 3A, but it's in the foreign tourist quota, so you'll have to go to a ticket office with a foreign tourist window, they're at..... Agra Cant station, Jaipur station or on the first floor above New Delhi station, above the main entrance. (no idea where you are at the moment) |

Varanasi is wonderful, even if you're not feeling great, just sit by the Ganges from about 5 in the morning, it's a great place to sit and chill. |

I haven't been all that motivated or able to look into tickets myself as stepping more than a few meters away for a toilet makes me nervous.
Instead I went to an agent to put me on a waitlist for a train leaving Agra Cant around 2330 and getting to Varanasi around midday. I was WL23 when he booked and have just been confirmed for tonight. I still don't really understand these waitlists as I would of thought I had no chance. Anyway, a 13hr train ride holding my butt cheeks together and I can chill in Varanasi. |
