The LHB rakes used on the Mumbai Rajdhani Express have more berths in 2A and 3A than the normal rakes. I think 3A has 72 berths; and 2A 54.

I have just completed an online booking with IRCTC.

My journey is six hours in daytime and I chose a side-upper berth in sleeper-class.

The availabilitiy showed over 400 places for this day in mid-Feb

However the system has allocated me a LB/ lower-berth #9.

Why - any suggestions?

Dear old india hand,
Your observation:
""I chose a side-upper berth in sleeper-class. The availabilitiy showed over 400 places for this day in mid-Feb. However the system has allocated me a LB/ lower-berth #9.""
---------------------
@@@May I know the Train Number; your starting point & terminating point?
=============
Regarding 3A Q, please give me some time.

Dear old india hand,
Your observation:-
""So the 3A carriage with 64 Berths is not having an AC Machine at the end! ?""
---------------
@@@In partial modification to what I have said earlier:
---
###In 2A, coach, the space used for keeping the Bed Rolls, gets projected further and with the result, the space for locating two additional berths (one.LB & one UB) is lost.
---------
###But in 3A, though similar arrangement exists, you still find Berth Nos.60,61,62.
================
@@@I was informed, the AC machines in AC Coaches are ""roof-mounted"".

Oldish ? The system found you old enough to kindly alot a lower berth !!

Yes, you can halve your age and retry, but be ready to tackle the TTE on the train !

Dear Old India Hand,

@@I am afraid your Choice for Side Upper Berth (or) Upper Berth MUST NOT HAVE BEEN TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT BY THE IRCTC.WEB SITE.

@@@Now there is no point in cancelling this Lower Berth. On the day of journey, you request the TTE of the Coach. He will be very happy to put you in the Upper Berth. Not a big deal at all!!!!!.

The Thar Express train will begin its maiden journey on February 18 from Khokhrapar in Sindh (Pakistan) to Munabao station in Rajasthan.

Does anyone know if Foreign tourists will be allowed to use this train to cross the border?

The following is from the 'Man in seat 61' website.

Quote:
A new weekly international train called the Thar Express started on 17 February 2006 from Jodhpur to Karachi via the border at Munabao.

Eastbound : The Thar Express leaves Karachi every Friday at 23:00, arriving at 'Zero Point' on the Pakistan/India frontier at around 08:00 next morning. After customs checks, the train goes forward to Munabao on the Indian side, arriving around 11:00, departing again at 15:00 after customs formalities, arriving Jodhpur at 21:30 Saturday.

Westbound : The Thar Express leaves Jodhpur every Friday at 23:30 arriving Munabao at 08:00, leaving Munabao at around 14:30 on Saturdays, reaching Karachi after midnight on Saturday night.

The sleeper fare from zero point to Karachi is about Rs230. No more information is yet available, but feedback would be appreciated..! The train will have one sleeping-car and several economy cars.
