Question Arrival times? CONFIRM?

Hi,
I'having difficulties using the 'How to find trains between two places and availability' link.
What I need to know first is is the arrival times for the Chennai Express. They are not stated on my tickets...

Specifically, I'm going from MS(Chennai Egmore)to DR (DADAR Mumbai) departure at 06:50 on 06/8/2008 and what time do I arrive and what date????
I'm coming back from DR to MS departure time 20:30 on 17/08/2008 but what is the arrival time/date???

Also, do I have to Confirm my tickets? The"statis" on theses e-tickets, that I managed ONLY thanks to your articles!, the status mentions CONFIRM.

Also on my ticket back, two tier A1 I have no coach or birth number, just /0000/CONFIRM. There was plenty of availability when I got my ticket... Is this normal?

Thanks so much for being there for all of us. It is so reassuring to know you guys.

Blessings,
All-one-heart

Chennai Express arrives at Mumbai at 06.00hrs on the next morning. Going back you will arrive at Chennai at 16.45hrs, also on the next day, so you will travel for roughly a full day each way.

I got this information from http://www.erail.in/

Did you book 1A? In that case your berth will only be assigned shortly before the train starts its journey. Go to the station a bit early, find the "chart" for your train where you will find your name and your berth number.

often this chart is pasted outside the door to your 1A coach. Go directly to this coach and 30 mins. before departure you will see the chart there. If it's not, there will be an attendant in the coach who will find your name and tell you where you are located.

Question Confirm? Porters?

Hi again, and MORE questions!

Does this "CONFIRM" status mean that I actually have to confirm my tickets?
And if so, how do I go about doing so?

And how much does one pay porters?

No need to confirm your ticket. "CNF" stands for "confirmed", so your ticket is good for a berth on that train.

Porters: I try to pay no more than Rs 50, which is probably too much anyway. I am usually content to have the stuff put down at the correct position on the correct platform and do not need help getting on the train.
In fact I could carry my luggage myself and I pay porters mainly to find out the correct platform and coach position.

Tara,

we need date and class for this....

Varanasi to Agra is usually the Marudhar Express which leaves Varansi 5/6 pm and arrives Agra early morning. But there are two versions which is why we need date and class...

Baba do you think from Delhi i should go to Agra and then Varanasi or straight to Varanasi and stop in Agra on the way back up before going to Rajasthan?

Then i'll know correct dates etc.

Thanks again

It shouldn't matter. Marudhar Express goes Varanasi - Agra - Jaipur - Jodhpur, so this is a really convenient train for what you have in mind, but there are other connections... I always make my plans with a printed TAAG and a drink on the terrace.

Go Delhi-Varanasi-Agra

You need to select Varanasi Jn station, not Varanasi City, and you need to select Agra Fort station, not Agra Cant., also use Agra Fort station for your train to Jaipur.

Such a great idea! Your advice sure will save me from worrying when I get to the station.
It's been a long time since I took an Indian train. Like maybe 22 years! At the time, I sure never traveled 1st class. Looking forward to it!

The official fee for a head-load is Rs 20 to Rs 30 according to signs I have seen posted in some stations.

So Rs 50 is generous but not excessive. Certainly don't pay more.

No.

Although there is a daytime and overnight train from Udaipur to Ahmedabad, they're very slow, a bus only takes 5 hours, then you can get a train from Ahmedabad to Jalgaon (or Bhusaval).

Kingfisher flight IT-2331 flies from Udaipur daily at 09:10 and gets to Aurangabad at 10:55

But I've heard a member say that this flight no longer operates, so you'll have to check further.

hi Steven ber- would you be kind to give me your point of view. What I want is to first visit Delhi-agra-jaipur from there go downwards towards Goa by train-but to not have to stay more than a day at time on train. what interesting places can I stop at where trains go more straight forwards towards south. From Goa I intend to carry on to Kerala. The main problem is what place to stop at from north to Goa.(afraid I'm not explaining clearly what I want)I want to go from north to south in simplest and hassle free way possible.Plane is much more expensive for foreigners from what I understood no?.See if you can make sense of all above.take your time- no hurry.
