Dear Dhyan,

Zara Dhyan se sunoh... and dont be ok? .

Mussorie Exp. 4041/42 is one of the most popular trains running on the NR and it is one of the biggest earners on this zone for it is so well patronized by the Pahari community plus of course holiday seekers from all over the country. Another feature (some say problem) with this train is that now at least it is running in two parts with one portion meant for Kotdwar getting de-linked at Najibabad. So that has probably reduced around 6-8 coaches which earlier went unhindered wholesale to Dehradun which has only caused more rush for this train. Presently your WL Nos. as you said are 1-10. Having worked in Railways I know for sure that come what may, you can rest assured that your WL Nos. 1-8 will DEFINITELY GET CONFIRMED. It is Railway policy to ensure that the first 8 WLs in any class get confirmed. So that leaves out WL Nos. 9-10, which in all probability will mature into (at least) RAC status if not altogether confirmed. But there is no RAC for AC class (i.e. in case your status shortly before commencement of journey is made known to you as RAC) then also, it will mean that your JOURNEY IS CONFIRMED. That is, your exact coach or berth number may not be made known to you, but on reaching the station and after printing of charts (which might have been got done before you reach the DE station), the exact coach and berth numbers are displayed in the reservation charts.

Is this much ok?

Well Dhyan,

One more thing, since you confirmed that you have booked in February which means that your journey is in April then I would suggest that it is better to wait and do not go in for a hurried cancellation. In any case, even after arriving in India you can have a change of plans and since the tickets are waitlisted anyways even if you cancel one or two days before journey, all that you lose are the reservation charges which for AC might be around 30-40 per ticket. The balance fare is returned to you. Also there is no dearth of different transporters, good and bad plus State Transport Corpn. buses which will keel over to take you to Dehradun and are available in plenty. Even if you have to travel in a group of 50, reservations will not be a problem.

So sit back and simply relax . Do not cancel. You can take any step after landing in India.

and welcome to india

Ishvara

Thank you that has helped alot
Do you think they will have the tickets confirmed two days before or just a few hours before ? The WL 1-8
because i ll need a bit of time to make other arrangements
Maybe i should just book the possible one or two seats on tourist quota and cancel the WL unconfirmed ones on the day of departure at New Delhi station

Dear edward,

Tickets with waitlist status are now 'allowed' in E-Ticketing.

Very useful info.

Is this for all waitlists?

Or just 'originating station to terminating station' waitlists?

Dear Srinivasan,

I have seen the tickets with WL.Status of less than Eight NOT getting confirmed, particularly in Tatkal Quota.
----
Even otherwise, the Waiting List is always preceded by RAC with the exception of Pooled Quota, Tatkal Quota and IAC bookings.

"One Way Love NO Love"

Nirola, I thought that's a very strange way to express 'love'. The elephant obviously looks happy, just think about the person under its feet!!!!!!! LOL you might have been better doing this

Prasad,

Well I have never booked by Tatkal and got a WL position. Of course 2-3 years back while coming back from SBC we booked by 6232 in Tatkal and were made to pay the entire fare from MYS to KMU (before extn. to MV). Of course ours was confirmed (3 berths) in SL.

Dhyan says that he will come from SA and has booked in advance so I think he has booked in AC. Is there Tatkal facility in AC also (I am not asking about Rajdhanis, JS or Shatabdis, but mixed rakes like Mussorie, A.P. or TN). May be your answer will clarify things even better to Dhyan (Ishvara willing) !!!!

Prasad, I also think that the first 8 WLs in AC (as booked by Dhyan) have a MINIMUM chance of maturing to RAC position. It is simple, because he is occupying WL positions 1-8, so it is these that become RAC (THERE IS NO QUESTION OF DHYAN'S WL'S BEING PRECEDED IN ANY CASE.... ISN'T THAT SO, MR. EXPERT????)

Dhyan, again DHYAN se sunoh!!!! . It will ONLY be your WLs 1-8 that will (it is the usual process) FIRST become RAC and will also be the FIRST to get CONFIRMED in terms of BERTH allocation. I am cent percent sure that at least in AC the tickets initially ISSUED as WL as you have got, might indeed become and show as RAC, but even with that position in case you travel to the station (without the berth numbers being indicated - it HAS to mean that your berth numbers will crystallize during the printing of charts and hence get shown CLEARLY in the resrvation charts). So, RAC itself means JOURNEY CONFIRMED. However, it is not so in sleeper class where a WL not getting confirmed but maturing to RAC means (NOT IN EVERY CASE BUT MANY)the entire journey being performed in the sitting position!!!). BUT AS YOU ARE BOOKED IN A.C. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO UNDERGO THIS!!!!

##Your observation is perfectly correct.

##Is Mr.Dhyan travelling in IAC or 2AC or 3AC? What is his date of journey? If you have noticed the above details, kindly let me know.

I don't know where Ramnagar is. But, sometimes if the station is not a major station, they don't post it on the regular schedule. You'll have to find the train(s) that go between Chandigarh and another major station further from Ramnagar, then look up the schedule online and it will tell you if the train stops at Ramnagar or not. Another thing is that perhaps that station is no longer linked by the rail line. It happened to us last December when we're trying to get from Agra to Jalgaon.

Cheers!

There's this one as well: http://www.irfca.org/faq/faq-codecs1.html
I think the Railways are supposed to have a page for station codes, I can't find it. Well, Trains At A Glance offers it, of course (.pdf file): http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/Tag...Code_Index.pdf.

They both have Ramnagar, you're just searching the wrong way.

Look at post 3 in this thread to find out the best way to search on the Indian Railways website.

On erail, click 'All Stations' (top left), then type in the name of the station.

You'll find nothing from Ramnagar (or Kathgodam) to Chandigarh (or Ambala).

Moradabad has a direct train to Chandigarh, but it's a middle of the night departure.

And Ramnagar-Moradabad-Ambala-Chandigarh seems a but of a rough journey.
