Wan't to know position of your carriage on the train?

Southern railways are trying out a cute system to show the position of your carriage on the train, check it out. (it also shows you how long Indian trains can be)

Your carriage is usually the one furthest from the place you enter the platform.

http://www.southernrailway.org/arr_d...ach/index2.htm

Next to 'Trains Leaving Chennai Central' click on 'select', then click on '7053', then click on 'Get It'.

It is just a slow website at the wrong time of the day.

Tell me quickly what you need to know, I've got a little spare time.

Any big train station (ask in the ticket office) or Wheelers book store on the station, some large bookstores (away from stations) also sell them.

Dear Steven,
Your observation:-
""Ahmedabad - Goa

T 6337...Ahmedabad 11:55, Madgaon 07:35. (M & Sa. only.)
T 6311...Ahmedabad 11:55, Madgaon 07:35. (W. only.)

T 6333...Ahmedabad 11:55, Madgaon 07:35. (Th. only.)
T 6335...Ahmedabad 11:55, Madgaon 07:35. (Su. only.)""
--------------------
@@@Out of the above trains,
1) 6337/6338 runs between Okha and Ernakulam via Ahmedabad, Madgaon.
2) 6311/6312 runs between Jodhpur and Trivandrum via Ahmedabad, Madgaon.
3) 6333/6334 runs between Hapa and Trivandrum via Ahmedabad, Madgaon.
4) 6335/6336 runs between Gandhidham and Nagercoil via Ahmedabad, Madgaon.
=======
All the above mentioned trains are heavily over-crowded trains and it is very very difficult to secure accomodation in those trains.
-------
In fact, from Baroda,
i)you also have 2977/2978 Jaipur-Ernakulam Marusagar Express (weekly)which also goes through Madgaon,
ii)twice in a week you have 2431/2432 Nizamuddin-Trivandrum Rajadhani Express to Madgaon.
===============
Though your compilation is appreciable, you should also indicate the starting point and terminating point of the train, in addition to its frequency/timings.
======================
Instead of languishing for securing accomodation in these LDTs, it would be fine, if the passenger come to Mumbai by 2010 Shatabdhi ADI/14.30/BCT-21.45 and then takes 0111 Konkan Kanya LTT/23.00-MAO/10.45 whereby the Total Journey Time comes to 20 Hrs.15 minutes whereas by the Gujarat-Kerala Group, it is 19 Hrs.45 minutes.
-----
But this Shatabdhi/Konkan Kanya option is NOT WITHOUT disadvantages:-
1) The passenger must be capable of affording high Shatabdhi Fares;
2) He must reach Kurla Terminus from Bombay Central within 60 minutes during that rush hour, that too, in a place like Bombay which is more gigantic task than performing journey from Ahmedabad to Madgaon itself.
----------
3) But for those, who cannot afford Shatabdhi Fares & also who cannot take the risk, and who fail to secure accomodation in Gujarat-Kerala Group trains, the option is:
---
i) By 9216 Saurashtra Express from ADI to DR: DR to LTT by Road/Local Train : from LTT to MAO by 0111 Konkan Kanya - definitely a hastle-free journey.

The station is Ernakulam Jn. Check for trains from Ernakulam Jn. to Delhi.

The only direct train is the weekly train you mentioned.

Other options are changing trains at Hubli, Guntakal, Bangalore, or coastal Karnataka.

The trains will be re-timed from 01/06/05 till 31/10/05.

I have the new times for train’s to/from Delhi via Konkan, and will search for more info.

More later...
The Konkan Railway website has all the new train times, check the site, all trains are affected.

Great train journey stories.

The following link is to a Time magazine website and has some good train stories, including one journey from western Pakistan to Assam in north east India.

There are many other links to other stories about India and many good photos.
