WL query

I need some help with the rules here. The first one is from Mandya to MEJ
which is WL 1

6732 TUTICORIN EXP 11- Oct- 2005 MYA MEJ 2A
Serial No Date Status
1 11- Oct- 2005 WL 1/WL 1

This one says WL 30/24 from Bangalore on the same day. I get in the train at Banglaore.

Train No Train Name Date Source Station Destination Station Class
6732 TUTICORIN EXP 11- Oct- 2005 SBC MEJ 2A
Serial No Date Status
1 11- Oct- 2005 WL 30/WL 24

Since Mandya comes before Bangalore and I'm willing to pay the higher fare, I'm more likely to get RAC, isn't it? i.e if I book my tkt from Mandya?

OR is it tied to cancellations from Mandya /quota alone/ which will make my seat move up to RAC?

In that typically Indian way, I'd like to jump the queue but will it allow me?Like I said, I'd pay more.

That's why I need some clarification wrt the rules here. Logically, a booking higher up the route should get priority as he'd be waiting longer to get a seat, isn't it. The only snag is the quota part which might throw a spanner in the works.

Dear Digitaldrifter,
Please look at this:-
----
Accomodation Availability Enquiry
You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
6732 TUTICORIN EXP 5-12-2005 MANDYA MANIYACHCHI JN GENERAL

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 2A
1 5-12-2005 AVAILABLE- 0010
============================== ====

You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
6732 TUTICORIN EXP 5-12-2005 BANGALORE CY JN MANIYACHCHI JN GENERAL

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 2A
1 5-12-2005 AVAILABLE- 0023
============================== ====
So, Mandya-MEJ Quota is less when compared to SBC-MEJ Quota.
-------
Hence, the confirmations, if any, from out of Mandya-MEJ Waiting List and SBC-MEJ Waiting List will be restricted to the Cancellations from the respective Quotas.
=====
In all probability, WL.1/WL.1 ""may"" come down to RAC!!!!!

Well, for the 12th it all looks fine and dandy but let me explain. I HAVE to travel on the 11th.

I booked the tickets and it's at WL 1/2 from Kengeri. and I check all the way from Mysore to Kengeri and it was WL 1/2 and when I check SBC, it's WL 30. So, by that inference, /I think/ the WL is done in blocks along a route i.e stations A- D, E-H sort of.

Then again, I don't know. You could be right.

Hello Bernard and welcome to indiamike.com

3 choices..........overnight, early morning, or lunchtime trains. (there are more trains, but these are the best options I think)

Train 109 (CSTM-Karwar Special) departs Mumbai CST daily at 23:55 and gets to Cancona at 12:20. (this train only runs till the 2nd July)

3-tier air con = Rs 825
Sleeper Class = Rs 303 (not air con)

Train 2051 (2051A on Wednesdays)(Jan Shatabdi) departs Dadar (Mumbai) daily at 05:30 and gets to Madgaon at 13:40.

Air con Chair Class = Rs 675
Bookable 2nd class seat = Rs 197 (not air con)

Then the following train....

Train KR1 (MAO-MAQ Passenger) departs Madgaon daily at 14:20 and gets to Cancona at 14:52. (just buy a 2nd class single for this train, about Rs20)

Train 6345 (Netravati Express) departs Lokmanya Tilak (Mumbai) daily at 11:40 and gets to Cancona at 23:06.

2-tier air con = Rs 1157
3-tier air con = Rs 813
Sleeper Class = Rs 299 (not air con)

Book these trains as far in advance as you can.

One of the most important reasons for my visit to India is to ride the trains. First of all, I wish to thank all who have made this astounding rail travel information resource available.

I'm using it to plan my itinerary that runs, Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Vernasi, Mumbai. There's a great deal to read and I'm printing out everything I can find - and then wil devote a day or two to absorbing it. Superb job folks!

Questions: Can I do that route in two weeks, making the usual tourist highlights along the way? If I have to drop any of the three central stops to allow more ground-time, which should I drop? Are the timetables accurate? Is there another thread or resource I should be reading other than those found here in IndiaMike or linked to in another site?

TIA

Is Availability of Trains ?Better ?Worse ?about the same in recent years?

JersyJoe's question, "Are the timetables accurate?" brings up, for me, a broader question: Is it harder or easier now to get a seat on a train? For the most part I have been taking notes on RECENT train schedules -- but pretty much assuming that India doesn't change that much from year to year -- that if the town had 4 trains to Mumbai in 2003 it probably has about 4 trains to Mumbai this year, too -- with departure times not terribly different from what they always have been. Is this an accurate assumption? Also, now that so many Indian professionals are taking to the new lower-cost airlines, will this lead to a reduction of train seats?

I have the impression, although it may be the success of Mr Lalu Prasad's PR machine, that Indian railways is growing fast. Apparently he has increased the number of travelling passengers, lowered the fares ---and turned India's railways into a profitable concern.

One recent plan is to double the number of tracks between major cities so that passenger trains are not held up by goods trains.

Indian railways crumbling while people take to the air? No; I don't think so

Back to Joginder Nagar train
We have booked Delhi - Pathankot with the intention continuing to Jogindernagar by train. Seems a bit unreliable still want to do it but....
Any idea if stuck how much would taxi take and how nice would that way be nice.
Also if arriving there at nighttime is there any reasonable place to stay (250-350Rps) in Jogindernagar.
Many Thanks

There's definitely a lot more infrastructure improvements going on on Indian Railways than in Britain. Guage conversion, electrification, track doubling etc is going on all over India. And they are continually introducing badly needed new services... I get the impression it's seen as a votewinner, although the announcement of the Sampark Kranti expresses wasn't enough to keep the BJP in power a couple of years ago.

Maybe we need a Railway Minister in the UK cabinet, the system is bursting at the seams and our trains are in most respects less reliable than Indian ones.
