Question

Apologies if this has been asked before but does anyone know if the latest Trains At A Glance is available as a pdf to download?

The one on the site link above says it's only valid until July 2005.

The new timetable hasn't been put on the net yet.

There have been changes to the timetable, but not many.

Find the train number you want on the old timetable website then go to the Indian Railways website, In the blue section go to the top left and move the curser over the words 'Train Schedule', then click on 'New Time Table' and enter the train number, (don’t worry about the date section), this will tell you if there have been any changes to that train's schedule.

I still find it easier using this section of the Indian Railways website, though always remember to change the 'Class' section from 'Sleeper Class' to 'All Class'.

If you cant find an 'ideal' train for any section, let me know, all trains are not shown on the website or in 'Trains At A Glance'.

I will telephone S. D. Enterprises tomorrow and see if they have received timetables from India yet, they sell them for US$5 and will post one to you in sunny Cornwall for a total of £5, a very good investment.

Thumbs up

Thanks, Steven. Very helpful as ever. And, yes, that would be a fiver well invested.

I've been a bit 'overtaken by events', recently mind you. It now looks like I will be in India as early as a week on Wednesday! In which case I'll sort myself out trains-wise when I get there.

I still can't book myself a ticket. How embarrassing is that ?!

Hi Doc

Sounds like it's getting exciting. Isn't it odd how no matter how well you try to plan things something always comes along to cause a little chaos. Hope all goes very well with the arrangements.

Thanks Mike.

You're absolutely right. The last few weeks have been insane, one way or another. The house sale's been on/off on/off so much I strongly doubted it would ever happen. But contracts are now exchanged and I'm just waiting for the money to come through. I leave for India the day after completion!

Obsessed? Me?

S. D. Enterprises still don't have the new Trains At A Glance.

Anyone coming back to London from India soon?

Indian railways website

Am looking at availability of trains at the Indian Railways website. Question, what does this mean:

21-10-2005 AVAILABLE- 0007

Does this mean, only 1 seat is available. Do I need to book my tickets for my travel in Oct to Rajashtan now or can I just get the tickets when I arrive in India.

Train-Guruji (or anyone else who would like to answer)
What's the fastest way to get from Jhansi to Jaipur? Happy to travel by any class.
I've found a way to do it via Agra (2447 SMPRK KRNTI - JHANSI 23.20 -> MARUDHAR EXPRESS AGRA 6.25 - JAIPUR 11.40), but if there's a faster/more direct route you can think of I would be very interested. I'm no going until Feb so there's no rush at all

Thanks!

AVAILABLE- 0007 means there are 7 berth available.

If you know the dates you want to travel, book in advance over the internet and have your tickets sent to your hotel, if you wait till you arrive in India you may find there are no berths left on your chosen train the the next few days.

The fastest way I can find is the following daytime option, but remember that you have to get from Agra Cant station to Agra fort station (allow 30 minutes in a rickshaw)

Train 8237 departs Jhansi daily at 11:50 and gets to Agra Cant at 15:50.

Train 9778 departs Agra Fort daily at 18:00 and gets to Jaipur at 22:30.

There is another option that would allow for a full night's sleep, though only Sleeper Class is available and the train stops at many stations.

Train 2626 departs Jhansi daily at 17:37 and gets to Bina at 19:45.

Train 491 departs Bina daily at 21:05 and gets to Jaipur at 10:45.

Fare for Bina - Jaipur in Sleeper class = Rs 148
