train from Raxaul to Patna? Gaya?

I've searched India Mike, and searched the forums, and I haven't found information on this yet. I'm planning to go from Kathmandu south, and enter India at the Birganj/Raxaul border post. Once I'm over the border, I'm wondering if there's a direct train to Gaya? Or (second preference) Patna. I have read that there are buses that take 8 hours to Patna. I have also read that there is a (slow) train to Kolkata from Raxaul. But I can't find any information on other trains that pass through Raxaul.

Any information on - 1. trains from Raxaul to Gaya (or Patna) or 2. some specific pointers on how to find out which trains pass through Raxaul - is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, no time to search for info, but at a quick guess, search for trains to Hajipur, about 25-30kms north of Patna.

From memory, there are very few trains from north of the Ganges river to south of the river in that area.

Also, to find most trains that run from Raxaul, do a search for Raxaul to Howrah, then 'view schedule', then copy the next station after Raxaul, then do a new search for trains from Raxaul to the next station.

Just done a quick check using erail.in

Search for Raxaul to Hajipur, and Sagauli Jn to Hajipur, there appears to be no trains from either Raxaul or Sagauli Jn to either Patna or Gaya.

It seems to me that in the old days, going to the Roxaul border, I must have taken the train from Varanasi, so you might check that route.

Thanks for your help. I was able to find a few trains that go through that area... though none are as direct as I'd like for where I'm going.

So, we're looking into flying from Kathmandu to Varanasi instead. It's affordable and way less travel time and hassle.

Thanks again.
