Train from Goa to Mumbai - advice sought
Hi all,
Still in the planning stages of a trip to India at the end of this month. We are in Goa up to 15th December and then need to be in Mumbai to catch a flight to Hyderabad on the 18th December. We've heard the scenery and coastline views on this route are amazing and so well worth the 12 hour train trip. What we're unclear on is which train to book.....there seems to be several different routes from Goa to Mumbai via train......are they all as breathtaking as the other or is there one specific route we should be looking for. Also, can't decide if we should stagger the journey. is there any must see places en route? Many thanks for any help. |

If you look here you can look at routes and tables etc. maybe this will help you with your desired route.

),* you'll get a full list of their route though. The Konkan railway as that famously scenic route here is called (note some trains running on it may carry that name, but not all will) follows the coastline I think, so using a map you could figure out which trains suit you. Try for instance the Indian Railways map at http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/maps/all_india.htm. I reckon what you want is that big fat red line following the coast to the west. * Or try also http://erail.in?T=VSG::BCT: while you're at it; save for one from Vasco, these all leave from Madgaon (Margao). Thivim may be along that route, I don't know Goa. (And, to be clear, many of them will have started further south. There's a button at Erail to allow you to see their entire route, too. The stretch as such connects Mumbai to Mangalore.)

There are two spots en route which deserve a break of journey. 1Ganpatiphule a virgin silver sand beach, devoid of any commercial activity.
2. Tarkali, nearest railway station would be Sawantwadi, this place is on the coast where river meets the ocean. You can do relaxing backwater house boat ride and see the world go past in slow motion. Enjoy your trip. trust this is helpful Cheers G |
