Train from Delhi to Howrah (Calcutta)

I was looking at the train on the website from delhi to howrah and am very confused!

See below. Some of the trains seem to take around 24hrs fror the journey..wheras the last two, i do not know whether it is like 12 hours or whether it's 36 hours! How can there be such a difference in travel times compared to the ones around 24 hrs?

This is due to the route & stoppages en-route. The best way is to travel by the Rajdhani Express. New modern coaches have been deployed which are very very comfortable. All meals are served, the ticket cost includes this. This premier train has right of the way over other trains so it is seldom late.

Rajdhani Express takes 19hrs (apprx) from Delhi - Howrah . Whereas Poorva , Kalka , New Delhi Express (2324 ) , Sampark Kranti takes 23hrs apprx. Toofan , LalQuila etc takes nearly 30-32hrs.

How come Rajdhani is not listed on the list i cut n past above?

You must have queried with the class option as "Sleeper Class", which is the default option. You need to select "All Classes" to get a list of all trains running between the cities. The Rajdhanis are fully airconditioned trains and do not carry sleeper classs accomodation.

ooh makes sense..shimla! how much does the rajdhani cost from delhi to howrah? As opposed to a normal sleeper class?

Lets take the lowest available class in the Rajdhani for comparison:

Sealdah Rajdhani AC Chair Car - Rs.1120/-, including meals.

Other Superfast trains Sleeper Class - Rs. 433/-

Howrah - New Delhi 3AC (3 tier Sleeper AC ) in Rajdhani express costs Rs1510/-(including meal)Poorva Exp 3AC costs Rs1208/-(Excluding meal), Kalka Mail - Rs1163/-(excl. meal)
