Hi!

We're two girls heading for India in february. We're planning on taking the railway from Delhi, through Rajasthan, to Mumbai. The cities we want to visit in Rajasthan are Jodhpur, Pushkar, Jaisalmer and Udaipur.

We would like to know which city who is best to visit first, considering the railway-routes and so on. It would also be great if you could suggest which order we should visit the different cities, and with what kind of transportation. For exampel, we reckon we have to take the bus to Pushar, since there's no railway stop there.

And furthermore: Is it hard to book traintickets on short notice, or do we have to book several days in advance? We didn't find any spesific answer to this in previous threads.

We will be very greatful for all your replies!

You may start your tour with Pushkar. Take a train to Ajmer from Delhi (Ajmer Shatabdi takes less than 7 hours). Pushkar is only 10 km away from Ajmer. From there you can go to Jodhpur. Again you may take the train (5 and 1/2 hours approx by Ajmer Jodhpur Fast Passenger) or take the road way (over 200 kms). Now there is a bit of problem as Jaisalmer and Udaipur are in two different directions. My suggestion will be to visit Jaisalmer first. Take the Jodhpur Jaisalmer overnight express train.
To go to Udaipur you have to come back to Jodhpur and then proceed to Udaipur. From Udaipur you will find both train and flight to go back to Delhi.
Thanks,
Deep

There are a lot of threads about pre-booking, but you can examine it for yourself.
Go to erail.in, select your trains and date of traveling. So you get an idea off the availability.

If you want to pre-book the best way to do this is through cleartrip.

Thank you so much for your replies! Yes, we figured it would be difficult to visit all the cities without travelling through Jodhpur once more.

About the traintickets: Is it possible to book tickets the day before departure?

delhi ajmer/pushkar
bus from pushkar to udaipur
udaipur to jodhpur bus 8 hours non ac approx rs150 to 220
jodhpur to jaisalmer train/bus
jaisalmer to delhi direct train(via jodhpur).you dont have to change.dep 16.30 arr delhi sarai rohilla 11.05
train is always more comfortable
i could not trace out udaipur jaisalmer direct bus service but there should be.you can trawl some sites on the internet.
a day before departure extremely lucky if you get it.
you could go personally to the railway station and ask for tourist quota availability but that would be hit and miss.suggest you book train as early as possible.
www.erail.in is very user freindly
