train for HAMPI

HI!
I want to go Hampi from Pondicherry.
I do:
Pondicherry--> Chennay
Chennay-->Bangalor
Bangalor-->night train-->Hospet

Right?? Is there a shorter way??? Is there a way to avoid Bangalor??

Are you traveling on a Thursday or Sunday?

If so....

Train 6352 departs Villuparam Jn at 15.50 and gets to Raichur at 05.49 the next morning.

Look on a map, Raichur is about 3 hours by bus from Hospet, though I suspect the bus passes close to Hampi on the way.

The bus stand in Raichur is about 1.5kms north (and a little east) of the train station, busses run at least every 2 hours during the day.

We did it the other way around (well, to Mamallapuram) last November, and changed trains at Dhone. I'm afraid I can't remember any details about the trains, but I don't think the connection happened every day of the week, and we left Hospet around early afternoon, and had a three-hour (or thereabouts) wait at Dhone. Train left about 9pm and got into Chennai Egmore early morning.

i found a good possibility:

Chennay 22.50--> Guntakal 8.00 a.m! That would be perfect.
But then I have checked the train from Guntakal to Hospet, and are all in the early morning! it's impossible!!
Do you know about other trains/bus???

I know we went through Guntakal - in fact, I've a feeling we went through it twice on the same trip (b/n Hospet & Dhone, and then b/n Dhone & Chennai)! That may have been because of lousy timing at Guntakal. I'll have to ask Mr Hongkonger (he was the logistics person for our trip!). I do know that one of the ticket inspector chappies (sorry, can't remember their official name) was somewhat baffled by our route, and claimed we wouldn't be able to get a train from Dhone - even though we had tickets - but a later colleage confirmed its validity.

Yes, it may not be the best way, but considering the timing of the train, It's an option I'd consider if I were doing the route.

The bus to Tirupati seems like an ideal option, as long as tghe bus journey isn't too long.

i think the guntakal-hospet leg should be bus-able.

What's the condition of the road between Guntakal and Hospet these days?

When I last saw it some of the pot holes were big enough to swallow a car.

Large trucks carrying iron ore had almost completely destroyed sections of the road. There were MANY broken down vehicles along the way. Not a route I'd want to do in a bus. Was amazed that the car I'd hired made it in one piece.

Is there a web site for the bus timetables??I'm not able to find the time for a bus from Guntakal to Hospet/Hampi!!!
I would arrive in Guntakal around 8 a.m. and i don't want to spend there a day waiting a bus!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or a change tour and I pass through Bangalor.

Help!!!!!!
