Train Finder Engine Thingy: The IndiaGroove trainfinder

Click the train finder link at IndiaGroove

I was hoping to proudly present this thing a couple of days ago but my service provider threw a few wrenches into the process. It seems to be up now (with a few display bugs in IE 5.5) but I'm letting y'all know about it anyway.

Basically I'm trying make train searches a little bit easier for everyone. You can search by City or by Station Code. Don't know a station code? Click on the stations link and do a search by name.

I'll be adding many more user friendly features as time allows. First thing on the plate is to add more cities in the dropdown lists. If anyone is good with the Indian Rails system and would like to volunteer a critical eye, I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers,

Mr Shaktipalooza

machadinha - well it's been a long day of putting out fires, guess i could have waited until i'd had more inspired prose

Travinfoindia - While in beta mode the data will probably be refreshed on a weekly basis. I'm still analyzing the indian rail system to see how often the data changes but am thinking once in production it will be updated continuously so no train schedule will be more than 72hours old.

nadreg - Thanks! See, I actually made it happen! I still have a ton more features to develop but I figured it's useful now so why not let people have a look.

Shakti

I think you have made a valiant effort. That is the good news.

Now the "Not so good news" - I looked for Secundrabad an Kharagpur - could not find either of them.

Cheers

Nattusbs - yep, it's a work in progress. The train list currently presented has all the cities listed on the Indian governments rail site, it will be growing all the time.

However, if you know the station code you can search that way. If you like to add some city/train stations to the list I'm setting up a development area where you can give your input!

It's brilliant.

I'm only sorry I don't have to make any train trips just now

If you could link up with Indian Railways and create a booking system, their site would be dead!

Great work - Love the Camel header photo - made me want to pack my bags! Made two visits & both times got through 3 train route searches with IE 5.5 - then it crashed.

PeakXV, were you searching by City or Station Code?

Okay I just did 5 station searchs followed by 8 city searchs - then crash. I rebooted and did 5 city searchs then crash. There is definitely some code or eating up of memory happening .... but how many searchs is the average user going to try?? Probably 1 or 2 and thus any IE5.5 problem may well go unnoticed!!

Nice work. I did a search for Agra city and got the first 10 trains nicely formatted and then some more but minus the formatting. Not that I mind but I thought I would let you know.
