The extra fare payable + Service Tax would have to be paid onboard. Since the fare for 1st AC and 2nd AC were increased earlier, the percentage of increase in this current announcement has been comparatively low.

This hike is all around.

AC 2 tier and AC First Class have become further costlier by 6 paise and 3 paise per km respectively
.

It has been practice in the Railways to collect differences of fare from the commuters, even if the tickets are booked.

Is there a definitive source for this ? According to Prakaant's link of the newspaper account -

The lowest hike is of two paise per km for second-class suburban rail and the highest is 10 paise per km for AC first class. For sleeper class, the hike is six paise per km.

I worked out 534 x 6 paise to be Rs 32/04. I'm not sure if that is the correct notation.

I think that I will settle in cash, requesting a receipt of course, as Amex' s forex charges are extortionate.
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

That is true 887*0.10=88.70 which is less than the subway fare in NYC.

No doubt you have a special Amex. I get zapped for 1.8% additional to any exchange rate scalping. I only use it to book rail tickets.

Yesterday the newspaper had published detailed chart. That's why I had copied the link...

Dipyaman might elaborate on this after digging from the circulars.

You mean multiples of 5s ? so 88.70 would become 90 ? But one can pay exact amount - Or, as the say in brooklyn exact change

Glenmutchkin is the one for me. And the little fat man with the pointed head is already in cahoots with Donald Trump.

i don't know if that is an option. in my case the tte gave a receipt for excess fare that was already rounded up. the amount was trivial enough not to bother...

On a similar note, today's news says that flights from Delhi, booked earlier, will receive a refund of the airport development fee for flights after Jan 1. Amounts to Rs100 domestic and Rs700 international.
Wherever you go, there you are. And if you're traveling the world, you're just farther.
