Train - Delhi to Agra, Agra to Jaipur
A travel agent has suggested we take this train to Agra as I didn't want to get up too early.
Delhi (11.00) > Agra (14.05) the ticket cost USD 15 for Second Class AC For Agra > Jaipur she has suggested this train - Agra (06.15) > Jaipur (11.40) the ticket cost USD 16 for Second Class AC My question is - is second class AC ok? (we are travelling with a small child). I think the agent said there was no first class on these trains. Are we better to change to a train that does have first class? Do the ticket costs sound reasonable - obviously they include the agents mark-up - or am I better to just get my hotel in Delhi get them for me when I arrive as we are there for 3 nights. Also does anyone know if there are there any faster trains between Agra and Jaipur or is this it? Any information appreciated - I have tried 3 times to undestand the indianrailways website but find it too confusing! |

The above quoted train doesn't feel right to me, I can only guess that the new timetable has these times for AFTER gauge conversion (as far as I'm aware the gauge conversion to speed-up trains on this route has not been completed yet). If my memory is working correctly the train leaves Agra at about 07:20 and gets to Jaipur at about 14:00. I will go and check for more information.

I think you have to check for the new timings. As far as travelling with kids is concerned, we were in india for four week during mid june to mid july. We travelled mostly by train. This is what we did, if the train journey is more then 5 hours or a night travel, we took SECOND AC. For shorter trips, anything less than 5 hours, we opted for THIRD AC. Travelling by train in India, is not just covering distances, but to know about people, the fellow passegers. We have wonderful experiences, people were very helpful and very open. The thing that you have to get used to is, all the people we met start asking some very important questions such as, age, married or not, about your bigger family, your job, the pay etc.,. Most of these may sound extremely personal, but its just a way of starting a conversation. So enjoy it. Good luck. Dan |

Thanks for checking Steve Ber. Our trip is December so perhaps the agent is telling us the new timetable. Thanks for the other replies - I think we will stick with second class AC then.
Actually when I asked the agent if there was a faster train Agra to Jaipur she told me about an evening train that left Agra at 6.00pm and arrived Jaipur at 10.30pm. I think I'd rather be on that than a 06.15 am one! I appreciate all the help. |
