Train chart preperation for early morning departure?
The chart is normally prepared 4 hours in advance of departure form the train's originating station (I think).
(A chart is prepared for berth allocations in First Class (air-con and non air-con) to allow berths to be allocated in the most appropriate way)
I'll be getting a train from Mumbai CST that departs at 06:55, will the chart be prepared at 03:00?
I remember reading somewhere that the chart for early morning departures is prepared the night before, is this correct?
Thanks.

As far as I know, the chart will be prepared by 20:00 hrs evening before.

Yes. Anindya's answer is technically correct. In practice it happens anytime between 7 pm tp 10 pm... don't ask me why...
Keep checking the net 7:30 pm onwards every half hour. By 8:30 pm you will know the position in most cases.

Thanks for the replies.
Damn, I'll be getting a train from Mumbai CST at 06:55, but my plane doesn't land till 23:00 the night before, so I guess we'll have to hope for a coupe.
We'll have a baby with us (though I wasn't able to include the baby's details when booking on-line), so if we're in a 4-berth compartment, we won't be happy to be sharing, and I doubt the others will be happy either.

Steve,
Perhaps as you have only entered the details for your girlfriend and yourself then perhaps you will be allocated a twin berth!
Good luck mate, don't forget to check out the dust on the carriage doorway!

I chose 1A for my girlfriend and the extra space, sometimes I think we'll end up with 12 suitcases full of baby stuff.
But soon after departing Mumbai, the baby will be attached to my chest and introduced to Sleeper class and some chai on her dummy.
When it's time for her to sleep, I'll read to her all about the new trains in the latest timetable, that should do the trick.

At the train ask the attendent to help you exchage your berth for a coupe explain since you are travelling with a small child its better for all involved. in most cases the people travelling the coupe will oblige and exchange places. exceptions being in case they arealso travelling with a small child, honeymooners, women trvelling alone uncomfortable with being in the same compartment as strangers.best of luck
