Train booking for others
Hi folks,
In november I'll be in Delhi and need to make several train bookings for a few friends that will arive in Mumbai later that week. I want to go to the New Delhi train station booking office for foreign tourists so I will have to present my passport to make my booking. Is it possible to make bookings for other people here ? I could bring a copy of their passports. |

Of course this is possible and you don't need passports - only the passengers' names, sex and age, which are printed on the ticket. I have bought many tickets through people who were willing to stand in a queue for a few rupees!
You can also do this online as the names of the passengers are independent of the name of the account holder. Here you need one of the passenger's passport number and issuing authority. Edited to add that I cannot vouch for the foreign tourist office: it does work for normal counters without papers.
