Hi,

I've been finding train information on the Indian rail website only to realise that they appear to be unavailable on the irctc online booking site? This is especially so for local trains.

How do I go about getting tickets for such trains then? Just appear at the train station and hope to get a ticket from the ofice?

Oh, and another side question. Anyone knows if there're taxis available from the Neral train station straight to Pune and how much that'll cost?

Help help! Thanks!

I'm currently planning two weekend trips. Was looking for the train from Pune to Malavli and also from Neral to Karjat and Karjat to Pune. The indian rail site I'm refering to is www.indianrail.gov.in.

As for Pune to Malavli, irctc stated no trains at all even though on indianrail I found trains numbers 1618 and 1617 for the trip to and fro respectively. For the Neral-Karjat-Pune trains, there were local trains listed on indianrail which were not available on irctc which only appears to list express trains.

So what's the deal with that then?

First, I've no info on me as I'm in an Internet cafe, otherwise I'd look at the local timetables to try to make some sense of this.

I use this page to search for trains, I think I've only noticed 2 mistakes in about 5 years of using that page.

I used the following train number search and couldn't find 1618 and 1617.

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/inet_trn_num.html

Pune to Malavli, I only found train number 1330, the Bijapur-Mumbai fast passenger, but this train is poorly timed and only runs on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, if you searched using any other date, the train wouldn't appear.

I then searched on the IRCTC booking website and found the same train, though I had to select Sleeper Class as that's the only bookable class the train has.

Neral-Karjat, I found both 1007 and 1029 for this section, both trains only have Air con Chair Class (CC) and bookable 2nd class seat (2S), but I found both trains on the Indian Railway website and on the IRCTC booking website. (same results for Neral-Pune)

Karjat-Pune, found loads of trains on both websites.

Just found these in the printed timetable, the timetable says the train has Sleeper Class so it should be bookable.

The couple of mistakes I've found on the IR website (Mentioned earlier) were the same mistakes, passenger trains with Sleeper Class not being listed.

Hey, many thanks for all your answers!

I guess I'll be using that other link you've sent me to search for trains instead. Hmmm, any other ideas how to get from Pune to Malavli other than a sleeper class train?

Oh, and any idea if I would be able to get a taxi from Matheran to Karjat station or from Neral station to Karjat station and how much that would cost?

Thanks!

Lightbulb Buses

Pune to Malavli can be done in ST buses too... apart from the local trains which run every hour. Nobody takes a reserved train seat to go to Malavli... Take any bus going to Lonavala via the old Mumbai Pune road. It will pass thru Malavli.

Matheran to Neral in share a taxi is (was?) 55 rupees per seat. They really cram the vehicle... it seems scary but its ok ... no casualties reported so far...

Neral to Karjat is just two stations and 12 minutes by local trains running every hour.

No advance reservation is done for local trains. Coz there are no reserved seats.

If you write your itinerary, we can help you plan better..

Dear Audrey Aw,

You will find trains in IRCTC Site, only when they offer "Reserved Accomodation" for any Class. Otherwise,
they will NOT be seen on the IRCTC Site.
