Ifound on the rail website that you couldnt book online more than 12 days in advance from mumbai to goa 3 tier ac / , do you know if this is in a private compartment

You can book 60 days in advance, which website advised only 12, that seems rather strange!

3AC is a shared compartment with six beds 8 if you count the two across the aisle!
2AC has four beds inside and two across the aisle
1st AC has only two beds in a lockable compartment this is expensive and only available on certain trains!!

Konkan Railways allow reservations on the overnighters on the Mumbai - Goa route, trains 0111 & 0112 (I think), but only in 3 tier air con, I can't remember their reservation period, but it was different to Indian Railways.

Here's the link to the Konkan RR special internet booking program -- you are correct, Steve, it is only for a 3ac berth on the Konkan Konya express. It appears that it is only possible to book this particular program 7 days ahead.
