Train 4703 from Jaisalmer to Bikaner (Lalgarh Jn)

The irctc website shows only Sleeper class available on this day train (dep 11:20 arr 17:00), whereas according to erail.in, the train has AC Chair Car class as well, which I find more comfortable for travel during the day. Has CC been discontinued in the winter months? Train gurus, please help!

? Erail currently gives only SL as well.

Can't help you further, sorry. (Uncustomary for express trains to have only that class, no? Then again they're not exactly major trains, and covering just that short distance.)

Nope, it doesn't. Only Sleeper there has the "AV" mark for availability; all the other classes are X'ed out.

(Ah, wait, I get it now: If you click on for the whole train schedule, it will give fares for other classes yes. But I don't think those are available; as indicated by that bar up above. It's confusing, I agree; moreover, what that bar above shows can't always be relied on either.

I think in that schedule below it's indicated by only SL showing up in blue; it's also the only one you can click on to get a further breakdown of the fare calculation.)

Anyway, remember Erail is just an unofficial and private initiative, and so should never be taken as a guarantee of anything; in the end, IRCTC will show you what's what, not Erail.

Another problem: the advance reservation period for this train is NOT the usual 90 days. It seems to be one month only. Reservation is only available upto 5th November, today. How to confirm the ARP of a particular train?

Try the official website, link below, however, as erail gets it's availability info direct from the Indian Railway server, it's extremely unlikly to be wrong.

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/inet_srcdest_names.html

As for the CC thing, I seem to remember that erail were showing CC for a while for that train (in the top half of their page), I don't know if the train had CC for a while and then got rid of it, but erail were showing it, so the pricing info may be from those days.

The day train calls at a place called Gajner, it's 30kms from Bikaner, but well worth a visit, Gajner Palace is the old stately home and hunting lodge of some Maharaja from yesteryear, but it's a real nice place to look around, you can also go on a boat in the lake, and take tea in the very nice cafe, all very English, it's a real nice way to spend a few hours, but I don't know the location of the train station in relation to the palace (I hired an auto to take me from Bikaner), maybe check out google earth.

Thanks, Steven.
We only have some 24 odd hours for Bikaner, with Junagarh fort, Lalgarh palace and some temples on our list, so we will give Gajner a miss this time.

A pity, Bikaner is such a nice, pleasant place to walk around, no hassle and it seems like a nice surprise around each corner.

Then there's the rat temple at Deshnok.

Yeah. Gajner is good if you have a good budget. The tea/entry is okay but the animal safari etc was frightfully expensive (for a budget traveler) in jan 2008
