Tirupati to Chennai via Kanchipuram
Tirupati to Chennai via Kanchipuram
Please let me know if this is practical:
I expect to visit Tirupati early 12.Oct. After darsanam I want to travel to Kanchipuram preferably by train. Is it possible to find a bus at Tirumalai (not Tirupati) to go directly to Kanchi?
If not, what are the departure times of trains from Tirupati to Kanchi in the afternoon of 12th?
Is it then practical to visit some temples at Kanchi on 12th afternoon and the remaining on 13th, AND leave Kanchi for Chennai by 1pm or so? I want to visit only the most important Vaishnava temples. Are there more than 5 - 7 of these?
Thanks

I dont know if there are direct buses from Tirupati to Kanchi. I would presume TN Transport Corporation would operate buses. If there are no direct buses, the best bet would be Tirupati-Vellore-Kanchi.
Tirupati to Vellore is not more than 2 hours and Vellore-Kanchi is less than an hour.
Tirupati to Vellore is not more than 2 hours and Vellore-Kanchi is less than an hour.
There are direct buses from Tirupathi to Kanchipuram
Both Government and Private (Kannabiran Transport and Bharathi Velu Services)
Buses are available for every 30 - 45 minutes. So dont take this vellore route.
The best route would be Tirupathi, Thiruthani, Arakkonam, Kanchipuram
There are around 19 Vaishnava temples in and around kanchipuram. Although all are inside kanchipuram two or three temples are just 6 - 9 kms away from Kanchipuram town although you can reach them very easily. If you start visiting them from Day-1 by afternoon you can finish all the temples by the Day-2 afternoon.

Dear Mr Prasad
Thanks a lot for your detailed reply. I just could not have even thought of all those temples, and now I have the whole list.
Would you recommend taking an auto, as soon as we reach Kanchi, to go to each of these temples? Will the temples be open during the day? If the opening times vary then going round the city finding the temples one after another will not be the most practical way. Do you have a suggestion for making the most of my time?
I want to return to Chennai as early as possible on 13th.
Thanks again, sir.

My job ends, once I provide the Train Timings.:-)

If you go by the information provided by Mr.BS Prasad, it is certainly advisable to hire a taxi or an auto to visit all the temples, with final dropping in Kanchi Bus Stand to take your Bus to Chennai.

Mr VS Prasad, sorry for writing your name wrong. When I was keying in my reply I was too lazy to scroll up and double check the name. Why is it so hard to guess that someone name VS Prasad can be VSP? Of course, in my case, it was pure laziness to look up the name.

Yes, Auto is highly recommended as you may find it difficult to locate the temples.Yes, These vaishnava temples has some peculiar timings. Most of them closes somewhere around 12pm and opens again by 4 pm.
The auto drivers will have a very fair idea about this.
