For all long distance train travels you should book tickets in advance. The winter holiday season sees great rush in trains.

You will find that many long-distance trains in Rajasthan at Christmas, particularly to and from Jaisalmer, were booked up weeks ago and now have long waiting lists.
I know that it's not much help to you now, but next time you plan a trip to India you should book all your trains 60 days in advance, regardless of whether you've got your visa. You can easily cancel them later online for a fee of about 50 rupees. Incidentally, your itinerary and departure date are remarkably similar to mine! I leave London at 2050 on Friday 21st December (BA) and take in Delhi-Agra-Bundi-Pushkar-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Bikaner-Jaipur-Delhi. Our paths may cross - look out for a bloke who looks extremely stressed at having to spend two weeks travelling in intimate proximity to his mother and ex-boyfriend! ![]() |

thanks for the advice, would it be possible to still have a crack anyway? is this the national indian rail website?
i'm travelling with a girl and will be in a similar stressed state no doubt, as not one who's big into the logistics, time is my enemy! If no trains from jaisalmer to delhi what am i looking at 24 hour buses? |

www.indianrail.gov.in or irctc.co.in.
But give me the date you want to get from Jaisalmer to Delhi and I'll check availability for you. |

You're in luck!
Train 4060 Jaisalmer-Delhi (Dep 1600 Arr 1026). Class 2A is RAC'd for December 19-22. (RAC = Reservation against cancellation). If you're quick and get two RAC berths then you're guaranteed a place on the train. Alternatively, there are over 60 places available in class 3A every day that week, and over 100 in sleeper class (SL). Fare: 2A - Rs.1227. 3A - Rs.877. SL - Rs.322. Book e-tickets at www.irctc.co.in. (Print out the ticket on your computer). |
